Wow, what a few days.

I buy a camera off the bay for my dad. Seller has 435 - 99.5% feedback and everything went fine. Then i get an e-mail telling me they cannot deliver to my delivery address as it is unconfirmed. But if pay via instant bank transfer, they can  Alternatively, i can have a refund. Fair enough i thought, but I smelt a rat, so i contact them requesting a refund.

No response within a couple of hours, so i check the item and its disappeard, from both my account and the bay itself. I then check the seller, and as of 1 day after my transaction, he is no longer a registered user. The money has gone from Paypal, but clearly no camera is coming.

Are Paypal any good from a buyers point of view? I did everything by the book.

Then,

I get home this morning slightly groggy from our christmas party, check my online banking and see some **** is using my debit card to top up his/her mobiles.:( I now have to book a day off work on Monday, to go and see the bank and try to ge my money back.

Its not like i am not careful either.

Sorry for the rant, but i am very, very angry this morning. Just needed to get it off my chest. ;)

Afraid paypal will be no use to you, once they take the money out of the account, it's gone.

sorry to hear that bud - hopefully you get it sorted - try paypal the least they can do is offer no help at all

paypal's protection for the buyer is supposed to be very good isn't it? It's the seller who needs to be careful.

Only if the money is still in the paypal account, if they've withdrawn it to their bank, you get nothing back. A method any bank would be proud of ;)

That was said in a previous thread and was not true then either. If the seller removes the money from their account, paypal will still refund the buyer, the seller then goes into a negative balance and will be chased up by a debt collector. This has been the case many a time, also.

If, of course, you've experienced the former, then I guess you've been one of the unlucky ones as this has certainly happened to others.

We got stiffed for about 70 quid last year. Seller vanished off the face of the earth, we got 13 quid back and nothing since. Paypal didn't refund us as the funds weren't in the sellers account. We lose.

That sucks, big time. I notice you say last year, I reckon this must be a more recent thing then, as myself and a few other members said recently. That's a bit harsh, must say.

...and this is why I refuse to use Ebay anymore! I got shafted out of £175 ages back and was basically told to go whistle in the wind.
