Everyones best 5 games of the year ?

In rough order:

1) World War II Online: Battleground Europe
2) Team Fortress 2
3) Medieval 2: Total War
4) Europa Universalis 3
5) Mix of the following:

STALKER, Bioshock, SupCom, Civ4, CoH, COD4.

All of the games for 5 I haven't played as much as I'd want to. I only just got COD4 and it's looking fantastic, only just on the second mission but it's looking like I might really like it. MP is yet to be tried. Bioshock was really really good for a while, got half way through then never went back, not out of conscious choice but I always seemed to have something better to be doing. Civ4 has to be there as I tend to just throw on a new game and play it for 2 or 3 days if I have that much time free, still a really good game. STALKER I really haven't played enough, went back to it a while again and had a much better experience with it then I did the first time I tried, if it wasn't for that it wouldn't even be tying for fifth place. SupCom brought me through the three weeks before BioShock without going nuts. CoH I only just got as well, looking good, still trying not to get my ass kicked in a fair fight though.

Other games of mention are:

World in conflict beta test, really liked the engine and game, just not enough to fork out €55 for.
Crysis SP demo, liked the demo, loved the game editor, again I can't justify the money for it though, I'd really just be buying it for the editor.
Portal, if it wasn't so short as to only have taken up 3 hours of my time one day it would easily have made the top 5. Excellent game, I really enjoyed those 3 hours more then most other games this year especially the last bit.

2007:

Crysis
Call of Duty 4
Portal
Half life 2 : episode 2
UT3

I love how Valve has marketed the games, and people now use orange box as a game lol... omg.

orange box is a bundle with 3 games, it isn't a game with 3 games. the face you can buy the games separately proves this

Crysis
UT3
CoD4
Orange Box
Bioshock

Would be my top 5 games probably in that order, theres been a lot of good games coming out in recent times :D

Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance
Call of Duty 4
Crysis
Edit, d'oh how could i leave out Orange Box

No other really stick out for me.

I can't believe that some people vote C&C 3 in their top 5 though, that game was one of my biggest ever disappointments, I was always a huge C&C fan, until they released that, thank god Supcom came out around the same time.

I haven't seen 5 games worth buying which have been released this year. The innovation has gone out of the industry. It is all financially safe sequels now.

I did quite enjoy Lords of the rings online for a few months though.
And Anno 1701
And Galactic Civilizations II - Dark Avatar

However older games I have played a lot this year..
Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots
Civilization IV
Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour
Dungeon Keeper II

Hmm - no FPS in that lot - looks like I'm stuffed in today's game market :(

You must have been living in a seriously dark corner for the last 5 years to have not seen any "innovations" since those games which are based on even older mechanics. :/

its sold and listed as a single game on almost every website

1) Crysis (can't understand how anyone would rate this worse game of the year, lunacy)
because COD4 is so much better in every way other than gfx imo :p
personally i found it a struggle to complete Crysis whereas COD4 i was hooked and finished it in one sitting
Also worst game of the year, no. Biggest let down, yes

No particular order.....

1) Super Mario Galaxy
2) Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (yes Dec 2007 but really right at the end)
3) Crysis :o
4) Unreal Tournament 3
5) Orange Box (Portal, Ep 2, TF2)
6) Kinda had to mention this.....Halo 3 if only for its very enjoyable single player campaign. The only game to have me hooked to the XBox
360 so far in all honesty

To be fair I had to mention the two games for the Wii as they are fantastic and it has been a great year for gaming. They are the showcase for what the system can do and despite having weaker graphics the games Ninty make are superb.

For us PC gamers however what a year its been for the FPS, what a year! The graphics just get even better and they games are just starting to be tuned to perfection. They cant suit everyone but I felt Crysis was just simply brilliant and a great end to the year. UT3 just astounds me with the quality of the gameplay and fluidity of such a stunning engine....then there is the Orange box....what a damn package, enough said! Sure we PC gamers have had our fair share from all genre's this year but clearly for FPS action this is where you should be ;)

Let down by a few games this year, mainly C&C3 as I expected loads and it delivered poor unbalanced gameplay! Very much a shame since it could have and should have been so much better than it was! :(

1) TF2 - first time at an online shooter and I think its awesome. Needs some new maps!
2) STALKER - Really liked this. I know many couldn't get on with it but I really enjoyed the feeling of freedom.
3) Bioshock - Great story and very pretty. Loved the way the locals behaved with each other. The regeneration booths didn't do it any favours.
4) Portal - Nice idea. Great ending. Good game to get someone used to FPS on a PC (the wife!)
5) Crysis and COD4 - only played the demos so I've put these together. If I'm honest I loved COD4's realism and feeling of immersion and for Crysis, I loved the motion blur and the way everything can be either blown up or shot down.

1. World of Warcraft

hmm, have i played anythig else that i would like to see on my top 5 of the year? hmmm me thinks not :( but lets think abit more,

2. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
3. Portal

thats so sad, i havent played anything but WoW all the time :(((((((

# COD4 (although played more of the beta than the full game)
# TF2 (So Addictive and Fun)
# Bioshock (Great graphics and Gameplay but pretty short)
# C&C 3 (Addictive but was let down a bit by Online)
# NFS: Pro Street (Looks great and handles well)

Pretty much the only games ive bought this year. UT3 and Crysis no doubt would be in there if i had actually bought them but since i havent they aren't there

thing is though, to me COD4 felt shorter than crysis, far less immersive, its a run and gun fest and some of the weapons are pretty poor, don't get me wrong i rate COD as one of the best games of the year, but i enjoyed crysis far more, if it ran perfectly all the way through it would be game of the year IMO without a doubt
