Hey guys, I plan on getting a decent set of headphones for my gf. She'd use them mainly for listening to mp3 players and such. I know it's a bit late to be doing it but if I order them early this week I should have them in time :)

I'm looking hopefully somewhere around the £30-40 range. I don't need anything massively fantastic, I really haven't payed much attention to this area before so I don't really know what to expect. Any suggestions would be great.

She usually just uses whatever crappy earphones she can get cheapest out of the laminated book of dreams. She said a while ago that she would like a set of full ear surrounding headphones. Comfort and music quality would obviously be what I'm looking for most. The price range is this low because I'm a) a cheap ******* and b) getting her a bunch of other stuff too.

Was just looking at the Sennheiser HD-280 but I think they're a bit too expensive. They're getting a lot of good reviews though. We've got a limit set on what we can get eachother and these would cost that alone.

Is there anything cheaper but still with decent sound?

How about the Grado SR60? Any good?

As I've said in other threads I still think for £50 and less then either get the Koss Porta pro or if you really not a fan of the desgin then the Koss KSC-75, the KSC-75 are the same as the Porta Pro's apart from diaphragm is coated with Titanium which make the KSC-75's mid range a little more apparant over the Porta Pro's, don't be put off by how cheap they are, they are much better can's than you'll find in the main-stream high street stores that cost twice or even three times as much.

The Sennheiser PMX 200's are excellent portable around the ear headphones. I think that they're well in your budget so a model up might be worth it.

I don't think that they're noise cancelling, though they've got quite a snug fit so they kind of block out some sound anyway.

I think she was really looking for ones that would surround her ears to block out noise.

then your probably best looking for closed back head phones, I could be wrong but I doubt she would be comfortable wearing headphones that actually surround her whole ear as they are very large and are not usually used with portable players, also many people are uncomfortable wearing headphones that large on the move, the Sennheiser PMX 200's that 'Greenlizard0' above mentioned are quite nice and are closed back so they cut out a lot of the background noise, they are pretty much the same as the Sennheiser PX200, the PMX 200's are 'neckband headphones' and the PX200's are standered overhead type, I do find on both the above Sennheiser models they are faily lacking in bass but do have a nice mid range, at first it can seem a little harse but over time it does warm a little.

edit - having a look around the Sennheiser HD 212 Pro's are pretty good for the price, they can be had for only 25.99, they are closed back and also cover the ear quite well.

Thanks for your help guys, in the end I went with slightly better then the HD212Pro and got the Sennheiser HD465 Open Headphones. Now I just have to hope they get sent to my sister in england before she comes over here so that she can give them to me to give to my gf!

Why don't Amazon sell electronics to Ireland?!

Good choice not getting HD212 Pro's. I have them and they are pretty awful. I find them very uncomfortable because they clamp really hard. The sound isn't great either, the bass drowns out the mids and highs are nothing special at all. Get what you pay for, I guess.

hrm.. I realised that I could have just bought off the company themselves and they send to Ireland.. garr.. trying to contact their sales department.

I use a bag

^^her

Was just going to let you guys know I got her the Sennheiser HD465 headphones. Only just got them now as there was a bit of hassle getting them sent to someone in england and on again to here. Better late then never though. They are absolutely fantastic. Listening to them full volume with absolute perfect fidelity. Russian Navy Hymn from hunt for red october anyone??

Only problem is that at full volume they can be easily heard next to you but I think on a bus she won't really be listening to them full blast anyway. They are still loud when you turn them down enough to be quiet to outside people. Thanks for all the advice guys :)
