Inter Milan football strip 'offends Muslims'

I was about to post the same thing as DF.

Heard something really funny before, if a man drops a table he is carrying when a journalist is near the journalist thinks nothing of it. If a man with a beard and a hat does it you'd be sure to hear about it in the news.

How is that funny? :/

if uefa annul the score then surely they would have to do it to all the england games against muslim opposition...which will never happen.

lets all buy inter shirts :D

Random Guy, they have NO right to try to tell ANYONE from other countries that something is offensive to them and that they should stop.

In their own country, absolutely fine.

This really annoys me.

Sheesh, take it easy will you? If you believe in a "Free and Democratic Society" then this guy has as much of a right to sue anyone for any thing, no matter how idiotic the claim. If his complaint was upheld, then you can be angry. I mean, come ON, it is so blatant that he is just gold-digging here. I will never get used to how quick people are to jump on the bandwagon if it has anything to do with demonising or insulting Muslims these days.

I'm not a muslim, but it offends me. It's a knock-off of our flag! How would they like it if an English club had a new design that looked like the Italian flag?

As far as I know St George isn't patron saint of Italy or Milan in particular but he is patron saint to a heck of a lot more than just England so I reckon you'd be on a bit of a sticky wicket complaining about the appropriation of his flag for someone else other than England.

//edit and Inter may be associated with one of the groups that St George is patron saint of even although their city is not.

Irrelevant. It's not "his flag" it was his coat of arms. It is our flag! Furthermore, England is the only country in the world that uses it for a flag, and rightly so because no two countries should have the same flag for obvious reasons.

The long and short of it is that a football club (and I would object even to an English football club doing it) is wearing the English flag on its kit! Unacceptable.

Sorry for the loose use of terms, St George did indeed originally have it as a coat of arms although that style of cross is not specific to him that I know of. However a football strip is not the same as a flag and if a football team wants to use a coat of arms as the basic design for a shirt I don't see a problem. I've just re-read the article also and as it notes a similar style cross on a white background is a symbol used frequently in Milan.

what are you on about? St george was was the patron saint of other countries including parts of italy not to mention the symbol of the crusades which involved people from all over europe

and

'Inter officials also pointed out that a red cross on a white background is the symbol of the city of Milan. Many Italian football clubs incorporated the cross on their shirts, including Inter,'

We should have it as our national team strip, but the people in power are to scared to stand up for our past/traditions/values :(

The connection between St George and the English flag is not relevant to my gripe. It is you and others who have brought up St George.

My complaint is that the club strip is a rip off of the English flag. (The origins of the flag are irrelevant; what matters is that it is currently the English flag.)

Is this idiotic, poorly-informed comment for real or are you on a wind up? You wax lyrical on subjects about which you know absolutley nothing.

England is not the only state to use the cross of St George. Georgia also uses it. In fact they have FIVE St Georges crosses on their flag, and the world has yet to end because of it. Nor have we taken steps to invade their soveriegn territory although I suspect you would like us to, but then you probably wouldnt be able to find it on a map anyway.

So what are these obvious reasons?

Will pilots take a wrong turning and accidentally fly unsuspecting tourists to the other end of Europe because 2 states share a similar flag?

Muppet!

but it is also the colours/symbol of milan city?

Here we go again -

1. Inaccurate Thread Title. Should read "Turkish Lawyer suing Inter Milan for 'Offending Muslim sensibilities' "

2. Stupid responses buying into generalisations of all muslims/lapping up yet another excuse to discriminate

3. Thread dies until someone else finds a similar inflammatory topic about 'muslims'.

4. Repeat 1 to 3 without considering that all your hatred will come back to revisit you some day.

5. random noob arrives from the PC police

So if a German team decided to wear a strip with what was a blatently a Nazi symbol while playing somebody in England would that not make you raise an eyebrow at least?

Sorry to **** stir, I'm er, bored.

not really no, if I see a Nazi symbol I'm not offended, because I have a grip on reality, and that shirt is not worn as a sign of the Knights of the Templar is it, not worn to annoy Muslims

Are you suggesting that those offended by what the Nazi symbol represents are less in touch with reality than yourself? Surely you are conversant with the horrors visited on millions and millions of innocents during World War 2?

There really is no excuse for advertising to everybody on here what a brainless bozo you are:mad:

Of course I am aware, and equally appalled but I'm not gunna jump up and down wanting to sue people and have results changed.

I don't get upset and tell the newspapers anytime there happens to be swastika in a film.

Typical buffoon makes a predictable response.
A member on these forums - I can't remember who - has this quote in their sig:

"Never try to argue with a buffoon, they'll drag you down and beat you with experience."

Nitro_Junkie and many others here are clearly intent on proving the validity of this observation, so I'm off.

The "moderate" muslim will always side with the fanatic or any muslim rather than the non believer at the end of the day.

Sorry man, but you are wrong on that one. The lawyer who wants to sue is doing it purely for financial gain. Nothing else. I doubt you would get many Muslims who will side with him on it. I for one dont. I wonder if any other Muslims on this board would side with him?
