Video games are never the culprit, as any murders or beatings due to percieved influence are actually a result of deep-seated problems and psychological issues, that has often been overlooked.
Anyone who even so thinks that it's possible to 'blame the games' need to start doing some proper research. No human being is that weak-willed.

So what if they were drunk? There is no evidence that video games cannot influence a person's actions, as you state. People have been influenced into killing by violent pornography (Jane Longhurst) so why can it not happen with violent games? What about the MMORPG murders in the far east?
Whether games should be banned etc as a result of occurances like this is another argument. But to suggest that immersive media like games is entirely blameless in a person's actions in this context is naive and blinkered, especially as how nobody knows the details from that brief article.
