Why are people this stupid?

<Fake E60 M5>

£20k to get the above on my drive.... It certainly looks the part from the outside! :cool:

Trouble is, £20k buys this.....
<E39 M5>

Which sounds like a real V8! :D Surely a no brainer? :confused:

FWIW though, the e60 M5's V10 sounds like a diesel at tickover, so that fake diesel one may well fool plenty! :p

Performance wise obviously its a no brainer, and i dont like the idea of a fake diesel slow M5..but there is no denying that the E60 looks miles better. I mean come on, this is a NICE looking car:

I see your point mate, but diesel M5 e60 look alike or e39 Real M5 for the same money? its absolute chalk & cheese I know, but surely, I'd have thought, anybody into cars enough to want a decent looking M5 replica would actually far rather have the real thing (albeit an earlier model) in the first place?

In the real world (& £1+ per litre fuel prices) fuel consumption wins it for the 530D hands down, and especially with a good re-map, your snapping at the M5's performance for 95% of daily driving I'd have thought.

As long as the fake was a proper looking job (unlike that e39 523i!) I'd be happy to have either.

:)

Oh i completely agree, i would have the real old M5. Just saying that i can perfectly see the market for the fake one, it looks miles more impressive and will have running costs in a totally different league :)

diesels are ghey enough as it is, but a diesel pretending to be an M5? thats about as ghey as it gets

Iirc, the e60 530D's engine puts out as much torque as an e39 M5, thats not ghey in my book.....

Diesel stinks & is slimy = fail. :p:D

With that kind of exhaust on a diesel it's going to sound horrendous!

Not actually true, diesel noise is more 'mechanical' by nature and comes from the engine itself. The exhausts on turbo diesels often have simpler silencers because the turbo itself greatly reduces the noise.

"Sports" diesel exhausts can sound quite nice, and can even mask (somewhat) the mechanical tractor sounds from the front :P

Even the E39 530D engine has massive torque and with a suitable remap can approach M5 levels, a low revving very torquey engine isnt a bad match for a good 'autobox' either.

But still, faking it to look like an M5... not a choice I would make.

PS... If it was a 535D then it might have the performance to live up to its looks... but its not even a 530D, its 525, which is not able to reach the power or torque of its 3 litre cousin, especially not compared to the impressive twin turbo 535D

Still fail to understand the E60... That E39 M5 is a very nice looking car indeed :)

Agree with others, lose the M5 badge, don't try and pass it off as something it's not and it's a very nice looking economical car.
