Somebody will fall for this........

I can't believe you would even imply that people who bought this would be expecting a photo of a laptop. The seller is trying to decieve people, end of.

Exactly, it is deceitful but not misleading. There is a very big difference between the two.

Stop trying to twist my words. Not once did I say it was acceptable what he is doing, just the listing is NOT misleading. If you carefull read the listing and the title you will notice he is selling a picture of a laptop.

If people are so hell bent on saving money that they do not take the time to carefully read the listing then they deserve everything they get.

Ok, the auction is not misleading. The sale is for a photograph, that contains an image of this comercially available laptop.

Then why, instead of the dimensions of the photograph, the resolution of the print, the type of material it is to be printed on does the author list the technical specs of the laptop? What do those specs have to do with the item? If the listing is for a photograph, then the majority of the listing contains information irrelevant to the sale. What oculd be more misleading.

Sadly ebay don't have an option for reporting scum bags who are just trying to make a quick buck with a morally dubious practice so you have to play the game and select something else to report it. Hopefully one of there employees will have the common sense to look at it, pull the auction and suspend the low lifes account. It's stuff like this and the nigerians that are quickly ruining ebay.

Reported also for misleading title.

As someone else said... how is that title misleading?? "Dell Inspiron M1330 picture, take a look"

Cant get much clearer than that.

And why be such a kn*b end and ruin the joke. No one in there right mind would buy it, and if they did, they deserve it. I cant believe theres even debate on such a thing, it's CLEARLY an image for sale. You dont have to be computer literate to read a title.
Yes he lists the specs of the laptop.. that is in the picture. So it's relevant.

So just because somebody isnt as educated is you in the ways of computers and the internet as you they are stupid? You must have very very few equals.

Because he is trying to deceive people. Again, I have said above I think what he is doing is morally wrong.

It is not misleading, he is selling exactly what he has described.

What about legitimate art collectors who like pictures of laptops. Just because you don't want a picture of a laptop doesn't mean other people do not!

Perfectly fine IMO. If you don't read what you are buying then tough crap. survival of the fittest and all that, get the nubs out the gene pool when they die 'cos they can't buy food.

The title can easily be read as 'take a look at the picture' rather than 'laptop picture, take a look at the listing'

Then that implies it's not against the rules if you can't report it under the correct category?

Selling something for an inflated price and the Nigerians who buy items and then ask for it to be shipped to the other end of the planet payable by Western Union are completely different and can't really be compared like for like.

Hi there,

Do you ship to hotmail addresses, and can you tell me the dimensions of the picture in pixels?

Also, what format is it in? I'd hope for at least a TIFF for that kind of money.

Cheers

I just sent that for giggles :D

Look. I know its a scam. You know its a scam, hell, we all know its a scam. However out there there exists some innocent who does not know its a scam. If you saw a man about to walk off a cliff wouldn't you even both to try to stop him?

Read what I said I never compared them like for like I said they were things that were ruining ebay which they both are.

this auction may not be explicitly against the rules but it is against the spitir of common decency and I would hope ebay will ignore the potential income they would get from the fees and boot it, nobody can argue that this behaviour is acceptable so please don't bother.

I suppose legally the seller is providing an accurate description, so providing he sent you a picture you'd be screwed

reminds me of when PS2's first hit the market, and someone sold an empty PS2 box on eBay for ~£400.

The guy is blatantly out to scam someone, but if you're going to spend half a grand, you'd check the listing over a few times..

I think the guy listing this is a s***, but you'd have to be pretty foolish to drop six ton without thinking about it for a minute or two.

I can't believe anyone would defend this. If you search for dell m1330 this pops up in the middle of 100 or so listings of real laptops.
At the end of the day, if Ebay wants to act as a big business, it has to take responsibility for items such as this. Is it a crime, no, is it immoral? Yes.
