Well, is it? Just had some on a rather lovely fillet steak (Anyone in or near Liverpool, check out the new Circo bar at the Albert dock....great food, reasonably priced and a lovely venue) but now I feel a little guilty knowing what the manufacture of it involves.

Saying that though, I bet a lot of the food, clothes and other goodies cause pain and suffering along the line somewhere. Just the methods involved in making foie gras seem sooooo wrong. But taste sooooo right :)

See ya in hell ;)

I am always in 2 minds about foie gras. I know that it's unethical, but it tastes sooooo good, especially with a slice of brioche and a glass of Sauternes.

Sick off all this lameness! Foie Gras tastes great, and why the hell is forcefeeding a duck unethical? Surely killing an animal to eat it is rather 'unethical' too but we still do it. Balls to all those who want it banned, you whining hippies.

Animal rights and welfare groups such as PETA,[46] Farm Sanctuary[47] and the Humane Society of the United States[48] contend that foie gras production methods, and force feeding in particular, constitute cruel and inhumane treatment of animals. Specific complaints include livers swollen to many times their normal size, impaired liver function, expansion of the abdomen making it difficult for birds to walk, death if the force feeding is continued, and scarring of the esophagus. PETA claims that the insertion and removal of the feeding tube scratch the throat and the esophagus, causing irritations and wounds and thus exposing the animal to risk of mortal infections.

In June 2007, a research showed a possible link between foie gras and Amyloidosis-related disorders (including Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, type II diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis).[49] Transgenic mice with predisposition to amyloidosis were either fed or injected with amyloid protein extracted from commercial foie gras. Animals in both groups displayed "extensive systemic pathological (amyloid) deposits". After cooking the foie gras per manufacturer specification, mice injected with its extracted amyloid showed reduced but still noticeable effect. The authors conclude that exposure to serum amyloid A in foie gras is the likely cause, and suggest it could be a contributing factor of certain diseases in a susceptible population.

There's this neat idea where you treat animals decently then kill them quickly and humanely. Force feeding for foie gras rather goes against that.

I fear my comments will fall on deaf ears, but there we go.

Balls to you, jackass.

Whatever. I dont need educating, I know what it does to the Duck but funnily enough, I dont care - I like eating good tasty food. Killing an animal is unethical too just like I said before. If people feel so strongly about this - perhaps they should consider vegetarianism...no, I thought not! If people care about Foie Gras, why isnt Halal cruelty continually in the news? Egg spawn farming?

People need to lighten up, enjoy good food - The vast majority of Brits no have no clue about good food nor care about it anyway!

Quit your lame attempt at being patronizing - the ethical food evangelist! Do you eat in McDonalds? Do you eat Caviar? Do you eat kebabs? Yep you guessed it, all such foods are linked to acts just as cruel for animals. Get off your high horse and whats with the purile personal insults?

well there's a horrific over-generalization. there's a whole world of difference between humane killing and torture. for the same reason i dont buy battery farm eggs, or eat at kfc, i wouldnt touch fois gras.
