3850 256mb @£90 or 8800 gt 512mb @ £140?

GT no doubt's Ive just moved from a 3850 to an old skool 8800 gts 640 and I'm staggered at the difference tbfh !

I had an old school 8800GTS 640mb before my 3850 and I noticed a difference moving this way.....especially in DiRT...the 8800GTS was crippled by that game with 8xAA 16xAF and all the ingame settings high

Perhaps it's because you had a 256mb version

At 1440x900 in Dirt I ran 16xAA/AF and it was smooth for the most part, thats if it was actually 16xAA, I know I was forcing it in the drivers but unsure if it actually works, everything was on ultra apart from shadows.

Yea it did, but it still felt smooth for me at 25fps.

Does the 3850 handle CMDirt with 16xAA/AF?

forget about crysis for the time being, its a lovely looking game but no one can currenty run it at 60fps with aa/af, but i gotta admit even at 25 fps on my lowly rig (50fps max @1920x1200) no aa its still quite playable) and still quite enjoyable merry xmas to you all

What!!! at 8800gt at £140?!?!?! but, but, but, thats like the rrp!! and this is england!!! has the world gon insane!!! cats and dogs liveing together in harmony!?!?

anyway yeah the 8800gt is the far superior card. it would beat out a 3870 also. just make sure it is a 512mb version and not a 256mb. good case cooling for that 8800gt wouldnt go a miss either.

cant remember the settings, think it was dx9 xp, 1280x1024 all high and 1680x1050.

The guy had a 512mb 3850 pro and I was using 169.25 and 169.21.

8800GT's can be found for less than £150 delivered (from established UK etailers). The prices are dropping to RRP levels now that stock is easier to come by. At that price it is a much better deal than a new GTS.
