Sim City 4 or Civilization IV?

It are all single games without a story except perhaps the mods / scenario's so you can start with civ 4 :).

I play at prince lvl myself, with a 50% win rate, I recomment noble for starters thats the highest ai difficulty without the ai cheating.

Some of the mods in the BTS pack are awesome, especially the space one.

IMO Noble would be quite difficult if you are reasonably new to Civ or similar strategy games. I would recommend Warlord as a starting point, or even Chieftain if you are totally new.

playing Civ4 today i went through the tut , but talk about throwing you in the deepend!! i had no idea what i was doing... lucky for me my tim ran out. (turns) so i won ..lol

anyone have any starting tips?

get lots of settlers and build lots of cities.

focus on you're economy more than you're army to start with.

Decide for a victory and go for it early ingame, but not too early, consider what types of cities you have, diplomatic relations ( for an UN victory), religion ( for an AP victory), what wonder, etcetc.

If you have a huge military and great production and reasonable reaerach, just conquer everyone and go for domination.
If you have several awesome culture cities that also happen to have a good production, go for a cultural victory my spamming wonders and producing culture all the time.
If you don't know by the time you enter to modern times, start working on a space race victory and if possible UN (diplomatic) victory ( nuke all ** opponens so u have 3/4th population of the world or bribe em to friendly to vote for ya).
If you only got a good research/gold income, go for space race, just try to keep all the others just good enough to stay in peace and just concentrate on boosting the eceomy even more, workign your way too all spaceship techs.

Civ is also something to consider, if you got military and charismatic traits, just conquer everyone if possible, concentrate on running your economy from the loot from capturing cities and pillaging everything. All cities on military except 2 good research cities. This is very dangerous tho as if u pillage/ capture too little ** economy will crash as will your whole empire.

Not always, I've had occaisons where I conquered an enemy in the first 60 turns, just rush out chariots before the enemy can even make archers, rush to axes in meantime.
Axe rush also works very well again pretty much any but a military ai.
With enough practise any player can keep his economy going @ start purely by conquering a nearby 2nd player that happens to be concentrating on the economy and not expecting attack, usually you get everything you need early if you win: a niceish develloped capital good for the economy, sometimes a 2nd city and 2 workers wich can improve the land around your cities.

^ whats the easy way to make chariots?

It's only accasional, ie. if you've got cow or pig or sheep near ya at start, the logical thing to do is to rush to animal hustbandry as your first tech to research, sometimes a horse pops up then in your capital range, make sure u got the wheel then and if you don't research that next.
First build is a worker obviously, so link up the horse asap.
Then just keep making chariots and attack asap with the first one, the earlier u attack the better, as it prevents an ai from impriving territory around his capital.

Same thing can be done with bronze working, if you start with mining the logical tech to go for if you've got no important res near is Bronze working (for slavery, chopping forests), if you happen to have copper you can axe rush an ai sometimes even before he gets his first archers.
cant seem to get into it
Try to play with someone against an ai for starters, it's nicer to play in mp I've noticed, there's this one guy I know that doesn't for life want to play it in sp and says it's boring, but when he plays with me he likes it ( I think).

2 Different games.
SCS being a game not even made by maxis, and a lot of people believe it shouldn't even bare that name because It's rubbish compared to sc4. The lvl of playing has been dumbed down a lot from being a city simulator to a more sims like game. Imo offcourse.

In the original one there is, can't find my dvd though to see where, but there is one in the original I'm sure as I've learned to play it like that.

Perhaps under mods of the vanilla civ4.

HEhe i started out on civ2 so the newer ones are generally easier, although civ4 is now very in depth compared

well really getting in to this , but still dont understand a lot of the aspects , got to technology age,

I didnt have the time to make a spaceship , but managed to make tanks n bombers n win.

finding myself drawn to the main menu music , i just sit there and listen to it once in a while ... good music imo ( any chance of getting this from somwhere?)

(drivepath):\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds\Soundtrack\OpeningMenu.mp3

Surprisingly obvious once you start looking through the files (since most stuff is usually packed) :)
