Anyone else with a Martin acoustic?

I used to have a 000CXAE, but I accidentally put a big whole through the body, finding out that it was made of MDF. Claimed on the insurance, bought a Taylor and have never looked back. :)

ALL of the Martin's that I've played since my one I've been less than impressed with. I played a £2,500 HD-28 at MusicLive, and it was one of the worst acoustics I'd played to date.

But in answer to your question, no, I don't have a Martin acoustic (anymore). :p

Lol, you shouldn't judge a guitar by the price. My guitar can be had for ~£600 now (I paid a bit more for mine), and it's easily the nicest acoustic I've ever played. :)

This has been broken in rigorously for the past year and a bit, and has been setup by myself to how I like it. It sounds and plays like a dream, and I'm yet to play a guitar that I prefer. That's not to say that I don't want a new one though. :p

I played some of the most expensive Martins, and a Taylor GA6, imo, blew them all out of the water. Even Martins that were twice the price. The Taylor had a perfect balance in tonal quality, the Martins just seemed like they wouldn't breathe. While the Taylor GA6 is far from cheap, i've never heard anything quite so angelic. That said, i could have, but didn't buy it. I'm not deserving of a guitar such as that, not yet, i still use my fourth finger for an anchor at times.. *slaps self*.

I'll have a look later and list the Martins i played, all were in the 1.5-3 k range. The guy in the shop told me theres people who like Taylor and people that like Martin, not both, thought it was funny, but made sense.

The Taylor i played, </3.

I totally toally agree. Taylors are far superior to Martins in my opinion, in EVERY sense of the word. They play, sound, feel so much better, and they cost so much less.

Also, when you say your fourth finger, do you mean your ring finger, or your little finger?

If you mean ring finger, and you're only anchoring it 'at times' then I really wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. If you're not playing with it, then what's the problem with it touching the soundboard of the guitar?

My uncle has the eric clapton sig model that is around £2.7k.

However, it really isn't that nice at all. I've played much nicer guitars for less than £300. :o

Will try and get pics as it looks lovely though. :)

Yeah, that finger, its a crutch i'm trying to teach myself out of, old habits die hard though. It's from the time when i started finger picking, which was about 8 years ago, and i've only just decided to learn to use the ring finger, let alone the pinky! Haha...

Andy Mckee, Antoine Dufour, Eric Mongrain, gave me the kick and inspiration i needed to learn how to use my other fingers.

I was the one that tried the GA6, not Naffa. :p

If his was £600, its not going to be the GA6, is it? Although, he may have played one himself.

Anyway, i don't think you'll be dissapointed, tone and looks wise, but it plays and feels quite different to the Martins i tried.

I have played a GA6, and almost every other Taylor on the market. In terms of off the shelf playability, they walk all over Martins. When I was backstage with Tommy Emmanuel (yes, backstage. :D :D), he played my guitar and said that he really liked it and that he'd never ever played a bad Taylor. He'd played bad guitars from other makes, but never a bad Taylor. I have to say, I agree. And now they've got their solid body electrics out, there'll be no stopping them.

I mean, just look at that:

Drooool  :(

These are my 3 Martins all playing the same tune - http://www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/ocukgw/martin.mp3

Why the chorus(I think)?

I've never understood effects on acoustics :(

I preferred the taylor to the martin I played at my local shop.

However, I've stuck with my Fender DG14s for 5 years so far :p My only problem with it is I prefer the 24.75" scale length for playability, as my teacher has a custom built one in this scale with a fat neck, and it is unreal how easy it is to play it.
