I hate New Years eve

Vastly over-rated night... too much pressure on having to have a "blinding" night, and just an excuse for a lot of people to get 10x more drunk than they usually do, no wonder it's one of the worst nights for accidents and other incidents.

This year call me a boring sod but i'm staying in with my old man... I see no reason to celebrate the New Year with a load of strangers who end up hugging you despite the fact that in normal circumstances they'd probably be the first to spit on you. That, and spending £100 for the privilege.

Much rather spend the night with the people I love that are most important to me, because those are the people i'll be looking forward to the future with, not some sweaty bunch of gimps in a pub/club.

And no, i'm not generally even a remotely miserable person.:p

Shame I can't give rep, well said mate. :)

yea, im with most people here, your kinda forced into having a good time, which in turn makes it less fun, plus there is the crowds of people everywhere, fights, nasty accidents ....not my scene at all.

Who is forcing all you people to have a good time? Who is forcing you all to 'go out'? I've been invitied to few peoples house' for tonight but I will be home with my gf to look after our labrador whilst all the fireworks go off and I'm not bothered one bit. It is just another day as far as I am concerned.

The way I see it New Years tends to accentuate emotional states - if youre happy then youre very happy, if youre sad?....Well you tend to end up crying into your pint!

People try too hard. I used to go to parties, people would be stupidly drunk before midnight. Past few years I've stayed sober and driven back to see my parents at midnight, perfectly enjoyable. Doing the same again tonight would think :)

I've decided that I'm just going to stay in tonight. Got a bit of a head cold coming on and I wouldn't be much fun to be around to be completely honest. I'm a right grumpy sod when I have a cold.

As I always say ... So the year is over, who gives a ****?

I normally just treat new years eve as any other day and I often forget its midnight till some time after. It’s just an excuse to get drunk for most people, I however have work to do.

Am I alone in hating it?

No you're not alone - the last two years anyway
because
1. I'm the designated driver (again) so I've got to do all the chauffeuring  so I cant have a drink
2. I want to stay at home & have a quiet night in but I cant - see reason 1
3. I've been up since 5 this morning, a 20 hour day is not what I had in mind (OK for youngsters but I'm 42 ferchrissake)
4. My nan is ill & in hospital - same as last year & my mum is sick with worry & driving me mad
5. My dad is organizing the "party" & he's driving me mad too.

Even at the Wagon & Horses in Meir (when it was open) we never had a problem.
I used to live opposite it,lol.

Ive never had any trouble in Hanley/Newcastle in the past(even on nye), tho ive seen a lot of people out to just cause trouble, and a few mates have got into some bother before too.

It is quite a good thing to do if you get up high enough to see a good view of the Castle as well, I don't know if you've ever done it before but if not you might be surprised how many people are up the hill at the same time. Have a good night. :)

If I was to do that I'd probably be annoyed at not having the hill to myself!

I forgot to add that I've got a Silverstone TJ10 on the way so I may also be skint :p

Add to that the fact that I genuinely hate NY eve and agree 100% with what Richdog has said.
