X Box 360 compared to PC Graphics

Lol, thats why its called a 'Games Console', seriously though, i have a PS3, 360, Wii, and PC, and i guess if i could only keep the one, it would be the PC

PC that runs COD4 at the same quality as the 360 version you'd have to spend at least around the £800 mark
This is exactly why I'm tired of seeing these arguments now, lol.

I don't mind people debating console vs. PC, it's just they're not capable of doing it with facts.

Not a shot at you personally lettuce just tired of seeing exaggeration in these "discussions".

At the end of the day an xbox 360 can be had for £180, and PC that runs COD4 at the same quality as the 360 version you'd have to spend at least around the £800 mark, you do the math!!!

My pc is worth about £500 and thats because it has a lot of hard drives in it. Could probably get a cheaper PSU, cheaper RAM and stick to the intel HSF.

Exactly I just valued mine up at just under £690 at OcUK, and some stuff in mine is overkill.

If I got a less powerful PSU, cut my RAM back to 2GB Corsair/GeIL, cut back to a dual-core and didn't spend so much on the motherboard I'd save a packet. An 8800GT is overkill to play COD4 maxed as well, especially at 720p (isn't it rendered at a lower resolution on the 360 like Halo 3 though?)

People just fling numbers around in the PC vs. console "debate".

Still be a lot more than 180 quid though, a 8800GT costs this much alone!
Yeah but keep in mind a PC does a lot more. You're also talking about the 360 Arcade which doesn't even come with a hard disk, I have an Elite personally and wouldn't cut back further than a HDMI premium if I had to.

This is about what you'd need to match an Xbox 360 at 720p IMO: -

Which isn't a bad spec at all considering the price and will still overclock half decently.

Edit: I would've actually gone for a Gigabyte P965 DS3 mobo but I don't think they're on here anymore.

A bit off with your pricing but I hear what you're saying. It's just that for single player games, the PC wins hands down no contest IMO and I can afford both so I have every right to choose what I game on as I want the best quality and the PC will always win that battle with nothing to even debate about. In a multiplayer environment (having friends over) then the console wins hands down and I don't deny that. For those who don't want to use a PC or that don't have the money then obviously it's going to be the Xbox360. Yes it does give a good gaming experience and yes it does look pretty nice but please do not deny that any PC game with recent hardware will look so much sharper and totally blow the xbox 360's GPU/CPU plus EDRAM away.

Obviously this is so opinionated that this argument could go on for years and it's pretty pointless. Xbox's are cheap as well as PC parts right now so it depends on what you can afford as well as what do you want (PC/Xbox360). 8 years ago I couldn't care about AA/AF and all the other IQ settings that are available but after using them and liking the results I want it mainstream and it was the reason I didn't like my 2900Pro. So hopefully by that you can see if the Xbox360 had a faster GPU as well some AA used then I'd be all for it but why bother unless I'm playing with friends and they own Xbox360's anyway?.

Oh please you lot are fighting about pirate games and all sorts of rubbish like that.

Nobody here is even pretending they're not a fanboy from the looks of things.

I wasn't involved in that, plus it was a miscommunication.

I've said many times that I've had and played consoles but prefer PC gaming. I prefer the sharper IQ and speed. I love FPS games and have never been really blown away with the Xbox360 as I had the X1900XT so I never got one. Since then the 8800GTX/GT/GTS -- HD2900Pro/XT - HD3850/3870 which meant the need for a console for me was even less. PGR4 and GoW made me want one but with only 2 games I thought it would be a waste of money. GoW is on the PC now so 1 title and it's not enough for me. Call it fanboyism if you wish but I have played on PC and consoles throughout my life and for the past few years it's been all PC and I've enjoyed it. I play the 360 with friends occasionally but still prefer gaming on my rig.

What do you prefer out of the two Ulfhedjinn?.

The other thing is, youll always need a PC. Dont tell me that if you have a 360 you dont actually have a PC at home. You'll still spend £250-300 on a PC for the internet, work etc. So really you should only look at the marginal cost. For me i'd say its purely the cost of my graphics card. £100.

I have both a the PC in my sig and a 360 Elite and I play them equally. :)

Recently I've been really racking up PGR4, Skate, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect on my 360 but also hammering the hell out of Crysis, Call Of Duty 4 and been trying* to get into The Orange Box and Gears Of War on my PC so it really is 50/50 for me at the moment.

There's always going to be exclusives I want, or some games I just prefer on one platform for example racing/platform games I prefer consoles for and first-person shooters or strategy games I'll always get for PC.

*Trying to get into as I've not had time to fart lately. Stupid holidays. :(

Ahh nice one at least you're mixing it up. I know this sounds like I'm backtracking a bit but I've already mentioned about PGR4 and that I like the game(s) but I do have to say that Assassins Creed and Mass Effect do look great. My m8 was playing it (erm, testing for dead erm pixels :o) on a new TV I had bought my mum for Xmas and It looked pretty nice for a GPU based around X1900 and beyond. Still..... death to all consoles. :D

I know I'll never get PGR on the PC but Assassins Creed is coming to PC so another reason for me not to get one. Although if I ever want PGR4 I could just buy a faulty one, repair it and buy that one game :). Cheap as chips.

You may now fart..........

:D

I didn't bother buying a 360 until about October though, there just weren't enough games on it that I wanted like in your case. Same reason I haven't bought a PS3, and probably won't as none of the upcoming titles are really "my thing." That goes for the Wii too actually, it's just not generally my thing and I'm not into the games.

Now the 360 has a lot of titles I like (and more incoming like GTA4 and Fable 2) I just had to buy one. That said though the PC is technically far superior and as I keep saying you can buy a 360-equivalent PC for only £300 notes or so. Just depends on the games when it comes down to it.

I edited my previous post as you were quoting it, and just to be controversial GOW is much better on PC! :p

Recommended Specs For COD4:

CPU: 2.4 GHz dual core or better
RAM: 1G for XP; 2G for Vista
Hard Drive: 8GB of free space
Video card: 3.0 Shader Support recommended. Nvidia Geforce 7800 or better or ATI Radeon X1800 or better

So these are the cheapest components i could find on OC, must admit my quote of 800 quid was a bit excessive :D

You connect it to your tv, like you do with your 360. Also, please see my previous post.

Also, for your spec sheet, when they say 2.4ghz or better they are referring to pentium Ds. And as i have said, adding a monitor is unfair. You can also get cheaper cases, otherwise the rest is fine.

How much is a 360 elite?

Id say closer to £400 to play COD4 at top settings if you allready have a monitor etc. Plus a 360 can only play games..........with a PC the possibilities are endless. I mean a build for the first time will always be expensive cause you have to buy everything, after that you don't need to fork out for a PSU, Case etc.
