January Transfer Window

Ronaldo's not even half the player up front that he is on the wing, I see no sense in playing him there at all. You could really do with another striker tbh even if it's only an average one.

I agree, he's a good striker, but he's the best winger in the world, so it would make sense to play him there.
I'd be more interested in playing Nani up top, or Anderson behind Rooney/Tevez.

Well its only when push comes to shove, rather him there than an "average" striker. Ronaldo had a cracking game on Saturday playing there, he was just a bit too selfish at times.

I tend to think a striker wouldnt be a bad idea but signing players in Jan is frought with danger. Vidic and Evra came in but it took them a while to make an impact. I dont think Fergie is a big fan of making big signings in the window and the prices being quoted for players makes me think that waiting til the summer is a better option. If we get a major injury up front it will be hard going though.

BTW seening Beckham in Arsenal training gear nearly had me choking on my lunch!!!

He's a decent player, but he's not a RB. He doesn't spit his dummy out, doesn't bring any trouble and will fill in when a player is injured, with Gary Neville having a torrid time with injuries we need someone to cover, as it stands, that's Wes Brown.

We need a replacement for Saha, someone coming in in January cannot be worse.

Yeah im torn about that cos its an area we really could struggle in. I wouldnt be a fan of paying anywhere near £30m for Berbatov but £8-10m for Defoe would be an option or even a younger player who could come into the squad.

I think the job Larsson did last year is under-rated. Although he didnt score that many he saw us through a tricky period of the season and was very influential i think. In similar games this year we are simply going to have Saha as back up and that fills me with dread. Sure Ronaldo can play up front but i wouldnt want to diminish his impact in any way by moving him.

Its worrying if Utd dont sign anyone - I know some dont settle straight away but I can see us losing critical games without any kind of backup for Rooney or Tevez (Saha is a waste of space, and cant be relied upon at all)

Also worrying if Wes Brown gets an injury - Simpson is available, but not experienced enough currently when it comes to crunch games. Yes utility players can cover there, but again we should be looking for someone anyway asap (will GN ever get back to anything like he was before March last year? Its becoming more and more unlikely)

Mascherano would actually be a good buy - even when he comes back Scholes is unlikely to play every game or even full games (and we are also only really talking for one more season anyway maybe two), so to have Mascherano, Hargreaves and Anderson being the main ones rotating wouldnt be such a bad idea - although admittedly a bit too expensive at £17m, and even though he hasnt done anywhere near as well this season I would be sorry to see Carrick go.

It would be funny of course as Liverpool wouldnt have any say in it whether sale went ahead or not- and after the Heinze affair, it would be quite chuckle worthy (and can you imagine the vocal barage during games between the two?)

Im not for a second thinking that Mascherano would actually say yes - I think its highly unlikely but even so

Its not even worth talking about Mascherano. Fergie had the chance to sign him before and he didn't want him. We have Hargreaves, Carrick, Anderson, Fletcher and Scholes (who has said he'll be back end of the month). People must be really struggling for rumours if they're trying to link us with another midfielder.

I'd have liked a Goalkeeper, Right Back and a Striker, but I wouldn't want any major names.

Don't forget we do have Ben Foster who was showing a great deal of promise last year.

Although he probably wont be able to play until the near end of this season... he might even miss the entire season which is unfortunate.

As far as long term solutions for left/right backs go, don't forget we are finally signing Rafael and Fabio next year.

They'll only be 18 though, so I don't expect them to figure in the first team quite so soon - but if the potential is there and they turn out to be decent, who knows?

Looks like the Bridge rumours were a load of rubbish. Rafa has said today that we're not interested in signing a left back and we're looking for a CB.
