Doesn't make sense to me to loan out a player with just 18 months left on his contract??

Aye, apparentely they're trying to tie him up permantely in the next week.

It's so he can't play against Spurs.

Probably because they can't afford to buy him outright as they haven't got the money from the Benjani deal as yet

In the unlikely event city are as pathetic as they were against Arsenal he wont make a blind bit of difference.
But seeing as this game and the return fixture are the only things that matter to the residents of the council house you can expect them to run themselves into the ground to get a result.

Don't forget before this season Benjani's scoring record was disastrous, in fact £7.6M sounds a bit too much.
