HP w2207h = yummy

'37 page thread' seems to be suggesting that panels manufactured recently e.g. oct/nov, are all either LG's or Innolux. So a 'good' w2207h cant be had. Am i right?

Well if you (like me) are going by that said 37page thread full of all the diff panel buyers, then yes you read it as i do. I couldnt find two S versions anywhere so would imagine my bro's are heading the route of refunds. :(

Now i truly understand the phrase 'Ignorance is bliss', because if i had just went and bought the monitor without reading a single thing i know i would have been very very happy.

this just doesn't make any sense. why would Samsung manufacture better panels for competitors than for their own?

If the only good panels are the Samsung made ones and they're not being produced for the w2207 anymore and yet samsungs own 2232 is still worse picture quality than the 2207 then I really fail to see what happened to this 'mythical' amazing samsung panel that seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth

And I suppose you've heard of one that doesn't have bad bleeding and superior colour reproduction?

I own the 226BW which is essentially a 2232 with a different housing, when I was deciding what to buy I went to a shop which had some 22"'s on display and of them all the Samsung 226BW not only had better colour reproduction it also is more aesthetically pleasing.

From my experiences here:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17792693

The Innolux panels are to be avoided but the Samsung or LG panels are superb.

I returned an Innolux to replace it for another LG which I allready had :)

Gimpy - how does one identify whether it's a samsung or LG panel and which revision?

btw thanks for the links - It's strange but the Iiyama Prolite 2201 is actually looking like it's the best.

I think GTxxxx means LG? Anyway, mine was made in Dec 07, if that is any help to anyone.

There's always someone with a downer on things, but I agree it gets very confusing. One minute you think you've found exactly the right bit of kit and the next someone is pointing out a seemingly glaring problem with it.

BTW, where's the 37 page thread?

Well said m8, exactly how i feel when Monitor shopping. :)

Threads 37 page thread, not all relevent to "H"model

Human nature to worry about "if i'd bought that one would it look better than mine" lol

Ozzaman put it plainly "Now i truly understand the phrase 'Ignorance is bliss', because if i had just went and bought the monitor without reading a single thing i know i would have been very very happy."

And like i said in an earlier post, unless each person who wants to buy one has all 3 panels together in the same room to see if there is an actaul difference then we'll never know for certain if one is realy better "noticeably" than the other. untill that happens it's like, aww crap its another panel lottery what do i do now ? :)

Oh i think the mentioned place for £279 do a price match, if ya willing to banter with them about it.

Still think i'm going to go take a good look at one and proberly still buy, its got a good stand, well made, HDMI connection, cheap for £200 notes, and whatever panel i get it can't be as bad as what it's turning out to be in my head after reading all the threads i have done over the last week :)

Ok so let me sum this up quickly (I think..) :

The best w2207h, were the ones with the Samsung panel, S something right?

But all of the current models being sold everywhere are either GMT's or the Innolux panels, and this therefore means:

That they arent worth getting? Because basically i have one sitting in a box wondering if i should return it or not and now i have no clue what to do.
???? I'd suggest reading this thread again.

The LG panels are absolutely fine. Someone has had a problem with 2 of them, this doesn't make them statistically worse than the Samsungs. Samsung has its fair share of problem threads on this forum itself what with panel lotteries of its own, let alone people just complaining about their panels. I own a Sammy LCD TV, just head on over to a well known AV forum to see how many people have posted issues with theirs (strangely, mine works fine:cool:).

Considering how often people post to complain about a product versus posting praise it I'd say this thread is a positive endorsement of the HP screen (incl LG panels). I know nothing about the Innolux panels, but if the Samsung panels are better than the LG one in mine they must have made some quantum leap in design which they are testing and haven't fitted to their own branded products yet!

As for "it's certainly not one for movie viewing or heavy FPS gamers", well I whilst "working from home" yesterday I managed to watch half of Alexander the Great (the battle scenes - couldn't stomach the bits in between) and play Crysis as well as some Medieval 2 Total War with absolutely no problems. The film ran fine through all the action and panning scenes, no stutter or smearing. At the weekend I'm going to plug the Sky HD box in to see what that looks like (someone mentioned that the screen actually does 1080p on their PS3). The games were lag free as well.

So, no, if you've got one in a box check the panel and be happy if it is an LG.

An opinion.

Check this link out for really good reviews of all LCDs.

The HP comes out of it very well indeed

http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/reviews.html

"The w2207 is clearly ahead of the other 22-inch models we have tested to date." It lays to rest any notion that this monitor is isn't any good for gaming or video. The only criticism is a slightly restricted viewing angle, particularly from below (!?), though still within the TFT norm. But then again if you are using it as a monitor you'll be sat in front of it, probably not lying on the floor..

The site is in English and has lots of reviews on it for other monitors as well.

Hi guys,

I was earlier thinking of getting a Dell (see earlier posts) but I also had the problem of 'Do I or Dont I get a widescreen?'.

So I bought the HP w2207h from a well known officey type shop as they allowed you 14 days to test it and return for a full refund if you dont like it!

Great, so i bought one last night and all I can say is that it looks amazing, I have the GTM002 model (LG i guess)

Some backlight bleed but I dont really game so I havent noticed it in real world useage.

Colours are amazingly rich but not overly so, the stand and build is great for a £200 monitor.

Only niggle I can see is that the monitor slopes slightly to the right, but with some constant correction its slowly getting straighter!

I am by nature, a very picky person, and I have the same problem as you guys, you read a few great reviews on it and then BOOM, someone shoots your new purchase down! This monitor has far exceeded my expectations, its not the greatest in the world but yet I'm not paying £800 for it am I!

Its certainly miles better picture and build than any other monitor(s) i've seen between £200-£300, and certainly much better build than the plasticky 'Pebbles'

I am a happy bunny at the moment.

Peace

Hi everyone, I just got one of these yesterday. It seems to be a great monitor...

EXCEPT

It makes a noise, depending on what's on the screen. A bright image will produce a low noise, while a dark image will produce a louder noise (e.g. the noise will be louder with the OC forums maximised, compared to Google maximised). Also, if I adjust the brightness, the noise will get louder at a lower setting and quieter at a higher setting.

I've been searching the net and this seems to be a common problem with LCD monitors. Has anyone else with a w2207h experienced this? I've finally made the leap from CRT and don't want to be stuck with a duff monitor!

No noise here on any screen and I have the w2207h.

I'd exchange it asap, i've never seen or heard a pc screen make a noise.

Peace

Ok, to re sum up, after Alex R's post:

It seems that LG panels should be fine, maybe there is a lottery within a lottery, in that some people have had problems with LG panels and others have not.

Ive got a GM002 model, which is an LG panel apparently. I will probably open mine soon, and if it does have visible tint or whatever I will do my utmost to have it returned even if the store doesnt allow monitors to be returned on that basis.

Hi guys i have taken some pictures for you of this Monitor . Some in CoD 4, I am also going to make a Review Video on Youtube aswell so will post info asap.

THIS IS MODEL NUMBER : GTMH3.4 GMT001 VERSION .

IT LOOKS REALLY NICE ON GAMES LIKE COD4 FIFA 2008 YOU DO SEE SOME LITTLE LAGG ON SCREEN BUT THATS ALL I HAVE SEEN, ALSO EVEN IF YOU ARE SITTING AT THE SCREEN IF U MOVE EVEN ALITTLE THE COLOUR CHANGES ! THATS THE ONLY BAD THING I CAN SAY SO FAR.

Well, may i suggest you take a digi shot of how it went box before you get it out to check, real pain otherwise. ;) If purchase was made with the guys in blue shirts or ones with orange logo; then be sure it looks in un-used and out the box new, plenty of wrap thats needs to be put back in certain way inside including two straps.

Cheers for the advice Sean_UK.

By the way jasonsony735, do you know what model/revision number yours is?, if everybody whos posted in this thread lists their models numbers and whether they are happy or not then maybe we can identify exactly which models to avoid.
