Does anyone have a reliable release date for this game...... trauling through many websites some say Q1 some say Q2 and a couple actually naming dates as close as February..... however I cant find anything on the official website and no online retailers have this for pre-order yet.

Looking forward to this game quite a bit but its annoying the hell out of me not even knowing when to expect it.

Anyone have any news on this at all?

Many thanks in advance

Expect the latter half of this year is probably the most honest assessment.

Just checked the official Europe site again..... found a FAQ in the help section, states its currently being scheduled for release in early 2008 both in the US and EU.

How early though is anyones guess...... I would have thought 'early' would be February/March?

They cant put it back again surely??? they'd get linched!!

They cant release a poor product either. There have been far too many bad releases they most of all cant afford a buggy, poor performing game. If it has to be delayed agian I guess it will be.

Mid summer, no earlier by a long shot.

With WoW and Conan to compete against they'd be terminally stupid to release too early and full of bugs.

It wont be in Q1, there is a lot that still needs doing as the testing has only just finished on the dark elfs (its not breaking the NDA if its also on public sources right?)

If asked, I would estimate between May and August (and more likely towards the August end of that rather than the May end). I'm very much looking forward to release, in the meantime I have to be content with my beta, though I should be thankful I at least have that. Currently there isnt much in 2008 thats drawing my attention, which is just as well, because with the two time consuming titles of Warhammer and Empire Total War I doubt I will have time to play anything else this year anyway lol

This is my problem and me wanting to get my hands on this so soon....... having dropped World of Borecraft got nothing else to play.... I'm enjoying the Witcher and an occasional blast on COD4 but nothing grabs you like a MMORPG.... so its annoying me its going to take so long............. however like everyone said I'd rather them release a 'finished' game.

I knoe its been said before with LOTRO etc etc but I really do think this is strongly going to put some pressure on WOW and Blizzard.... this from an twice over ex wower.... and tbh I hope it does, were due for a change and something new.

So you reckon possible August? Jesus thats like Q3 when the official site states 'Early 2008'

My problem is now that if I do have to wait that long I'm gonna end up trying this Pirates of the Bruning Sea (which I've heard is pap) and Conan when that is released..... however I've heard Conan looks very very good but thats about it??

Must games tend to be based around the best online game their is, I got bored of WOW because it was a grindfest, having to raid etc, dont think think that LOTRO is quite like that.

Well WOW shouldn't really be considered competition.
From what I've heard/seen there is a good chance that Warhammer may actually have some gameplay and other reasons to play other than a race to get to the highest level as quickly as possible - with WOW that being a matter of a few weeks, month at the most.
With regards gameplay and lastability it will actually lend more to EQ2 than WOW (fingers crossed).

A game cannot be indefinitely postponed, especially an MMORPG.
You need to remember that the company is making absolutely no money until the game is released.
So for every month in development that is staff salaries etc to be paid but still not generating any kind of income.
Eventually the bullet has to be bitten and an incomplete game will have to be released.
Many MMORPG's are released as incomplete and the extra features are added in at later dates.
It's up to the player if they want to start at the very beginning and suffer some missing features and the bugs or to wait until a little later when the game is a lot closer to the planned feature set.

No MMORPG has ever been released perfectly.
Many recent releases are attacked because people don't realise what a beta is.
A beta isn't an opportunity to see the game before release, it's an opportunity for people who care about the game to help find bugs and gameplay issues.
Unfortunately too many people who get into beta just play the game, don't actually bother reporting issues and so they creep into the final release.

I have played nearly every single MMORPG since Ultima Online (I actually played in the UO Beta at a time when there was a single UO server in the US and we were connecting to the internet via 28k modems that usually actually connected at around 19.5k).
Some games have released better than others - EQ2 was a good release, WOW really wasn't too bad either despite the fact they misjudged how many people would play and their logon servers were a disaster in the early days (1hr login times - who remembers those?).
Games such as Anarchy Online had terrible releases - game released, one day of playing (with limited zoning) and then down for 2 days.

If I was releasing an MMORPG like Warhammer now and I was at the same development stage as they are now, I think I would do a feature lock ASAP.
Rlease the game in say February/March and do half-price subscriptions for 2-3 months to generate some income but to also ease people in as bugs & issues are solved.
By the time you reach month 3 you should be more or less there and can then start charing full price for your monthly subscriptions.
