I wonder how many illegal parts Ferrari manged to get on the 2008 car? ;)

and Mclaren have just relased a pic of their 2008 car

Performance wise it was a bit of a disaster. Didn't they even have to revert back to a more conventional nose halfway through the season?

The new Ferrari looks great, though maybe a bit 'busy' with all the winglets?

Always did like that car, despite how flawed it was. Maybe it was purely down to the fact it actually looked different.

The modern cars are an aesthetic mess - all stuck on winglets, chimneys, scoops etc

I like the car with all those stuck on bits. As long as it still flows. the early cars just look to smooth and not rugged enough.

Thats my biggest problem with modern f1. Designers can't design. Engine manufactures can't invent.
The rules need to be greatly relaxed, so cars actually look and behave differently. Then we'll get some good racing.

Just had my normal morning check on Autosport and a wee thing in the corner caught my eye. Each week they have 3 links to stories from this week last year, the current ones prove that predictions are usually a bad thing....

Briatore backs Fisichella to shine
Toyota target first win with TF107
Honda aiming for the title in 2007

Those have brightened up my first day back at work.

I am the complete opposite, I hate the stick on tat of todays cars, reduce the aero dependancy and go back to V10/V12 engines with fat slicks for me

+1

The cars are WAY to areo dependant these days. Look a mess and can't run closely through the corners. I'm hoping the banning of several driver aids such as traction control brings back some of the missing spectacle this year but the procession will remain until they reduce the areo dependencies and give them back some mechanical grip. I don't expect passing at every corner, but the cars are so glued to the track they are even boring to watch sometimes and you can't see the driver really working. It *looks* to easy.

Being 26 I guess you would think I would prefer the look of modern F1 cars, but no they have been getting worse and worse since the mid-90's in my opinion. All the winglets and aero parts just look fugly, bolt on some grooved tyres and you have some of the ugliest F1 cars ever IMO.

Best looking F1 car, complete with the greatest driver F1 ever saw.

I think there could be some big accidents this year as looking at Kimi in the 2008 car he can't see what is alongside him due to the higher cockpit sides.

Everyone's going to be in the same boat this year, the larger head protection is a rule change made in response to DC & Wurz's coming together last year. Time will tell if the rules are open to liberal interpretation in the same way as they were in 96 or if all the cars will be similar.

The new McLaren MP4-23 has been unveiled at the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, not many pictures yet but from what I've seen it looks far more like last year's car than the Ferrari.

Unsurprisingly the Toad has chucked his toys out the pram again:

Todt says new ECU benefits McLaren.

Aww diddums... Did Ferrari tender for the ECU contract - not to my knowledge, so sit down and stop complaining.

Totally agree, and even if it is true how much of an advantage can they have as they are all the same and I assume the other teams will not get their ECU's one day before the first race?

Seems like mclaren have extended the wheel base much like Ferrari did with the F2007.

The MP4-23, which will be driven by Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen during the season, has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor.

It also has a straightened nose and sports a more wrapped bodywork with tighter undercuts. The car includes an all-new carbon fibre gearbox.

Looks pretty much like the 2007 car. I guess we'll have to wait until testing / melbourne for a real idea of their aero.
