I've bought a new car!

I dont get it, its basically the same as the rover, how is the prospect of picking it up exciting?

i was excited about picking up a £900 mondeo which was strange considering i've payed £6k for a car before, gotta agree though, vauxhall = least exciting car in the world

Maybe he feels supreme over people who choose to pay less for their cars :o

Lol, It's wrong to state that its a 140bhp car though, Ford spec sheets list it as 129BHP (IIRC) not all Mondeos will make this and some may make more, so you going on an RR is hardly representative of the power of the car on a whole where as Fords spec sheet is. IMO.

EDIT :

Mondeo Zetec Specification: Five-door saloon
Body: Unitary-welded, steel
Dimensions: l: 4,556mm; w: 1,745mm; h: 1,425mm

ENGINE
Capacity: 1,998cc, four cyclinders
Power: 130bhp @ 6,000rpm

TRANSMISSION
Clutch: Standard Ford
Gearbox: Manual five speed

Where Fox plucked 10BHP from I'll never know, maybe he had a cat back with induction. :o

I must admit I always wondered about the 140bhp. My brother in law had a MkII 2.0 and I drove it back once. When I got back in my old 150bhp Alfa Twin Spark it felt much more powerful. I was quite surprised the Mondeo was only rated 10bhp below.

Back to the orignal poster. Good luck and I am glad you are happy with it. If the car feels right then it is probably the right car for you at the moment. I wish all the best.

Because some people don't have the luxrury and the spare finance you do to be able to afford more expensive higher premium cars, so they look forward to what they can afford.

Why **** on his bonfire?

:o:rolleyes:

I am not critizing the car, i have no opinion on the car either way, fair enough if he wants to buy that car, im sure it will be reliable and serve him well.

But being excited about picking it up? Its the same as what he's already got! Going on a date with a new girl is exciting, a sky dive is exciting, picking up a normal replacement to a very similar car....isnt.

I think he's possibly more excited about the fact he won't be shelling out a small fortune on repairs all the time :D....or will he :p

I'll withdraw the "up your own" comment, I got the wrong end of the stick :)

I like the Astra Coupe's styling. It's a good looking car IMO.

I was on the verge of splashing on one of these on the basis that:

-It had the 2.0 Turbo
-Was the 888 version (I was dreaming at this point)
-It was NOT convertible
-It had either red leather or the black leather & blue alcantara sports seats
-It was metallic blue, orangy-gold or silver
-My boss stopped buying Astras because of their familiarirty/practicality so I wouldn't feel akin to a grandad when driving it.

The link is dead in the OP, FIX IT!! I want pics!

I still really like them though.

Why is it people say that "cant wait" to pick up cars like this, is it just me that would find the prospect of picking up a vauxhall a complete non event?

Get over yourself maybe? I looked forward to picking up my 350quid 620ti when I bought it, how boring my life must be!

Ignore Jez, he's obviously totally up his own.

Maybe he feels supreme over people who choose to pay less for their cars :o

Hardly, my comment has nothing to do with how much money the car costs.

I'd be excited about picking up a £400 MR2 like DRZ's for example, because it would be different and a fun toy. I wouldnt be at all excited about picking up another S430 the same as mine though.

It's not the same car he's picking up though, he's picking up a Vauxhall which is completely different. Change is good and I think that's what he is looking forward to.

Oh come on, its like me changing my washing machine from a bosch to a zanussi.

The money has nothing to do with it, its still one boring car to another. Maybe i simply deal with too many run of the mill cars to find this exciting.

Are you being serious?

Most likely :). The car is run of the mill but theres nothing wrong with being excited on a new car purchase regardless of what it is.

I do feel this was a sidegrade but he's probably happy with the power it puts out and now he can rest safe in the knowledge this car will be more reliable.

Or will it, stay tuned ;):D

Im sure it will be, i deal with a lot of vauxhalls, and they are good cars in the literal sense, they are fairly well made, cheap to maintain, and reliable - fantastic for a cheap daily drive. :)

Exciting though, i dont even see how people can question what ive put, i mean come on :p

Jez, trying not to totally derail this thread, you've come here and posted nothing but negative comments aiming to put the man down. Either, you've an inferiority complex which forces you to put others down or a superiority complex which you're just enforcing. Either way, don't you see the arrogance?

You're being extremely narrow minded if you feel that people can only be excited by acquiring vehicles to your standard.

Its nothing to do with standards (i dont even drive an expensive car), or money, or what he's chosen to buy. Go and read the thread from the top again. I havnt even posted negative comments, others have, i havnt. I have simply questioned one comment as i find it completely bizarre.

Simple, some people are easily excited/pleased which isn't a bad thing. He's bought the car which must means he likes it which must mean he's fairly excited, I'd hardly expect him to walk down to the dealers on the pickup day with a face like a smacked arse.
