Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD @ CES

Cool thanks - I only have 5 HD-dvd's for my player so I doubt there would be any point in me getting a PS3 just to play blu-ray - I only really buy box sets and they are the only things I will rewatch. To my knowledge there arent many box sets in HD yet :p

Like i mentioned earlier BD seems to of went for the Teen and Family consumer titles moreso than the avid movie nut job. Sonys catalouge is typical of teens, young men (the kind that also play games) and Disney Fox have plenty of classics and family titles.

Not that your one of them but you know what i mean. I agree BD hasnt has anywhere near the boxsets but they will come.PS3 is great in other ways too, and if you create US and JAP accounts then theirs loads of 1080p trailers that appear each month too, though the UK PSN is poor in this regards.

If its TV box sets 24 (season 1) Lost (season 3), Atlantis (season 1), Prison Break (SEASON 1) are all coming to Blu Ray.

Unfortunately, the best box set, Heroes: Season 1 stays as HD-DVD as it is by NBC/Universal

Yeah, I ended up getting Heroes on SD-DVD, and I also still buy the new Battlestar Galactica series on SD-DVD, due to only coming out on HD-DVD (though BSG is only on series 1 so far anyway)

I wonder if, in the future, when bluray is the only format, if NBC/Universal will go back and rerelease Heroes and stuff on Bluray. I'd imagine they would, more money for them.... just a matter of when.

As it happens, I was quite impressed with the quality of Heroes on SD-DVD, so wouldn't buy it again anyway (famous last words, I've rebought quite a few films on bluray, which I swore I'd never do) ;)

Watched my Harry Potter boxset last week (thank goodness Warner Bluray releases are all region free!) and am about to order the Resident Evil trilogy boxset.

i will however, laugh at you having 5 versions of the same film all on the same format. go you!

That's nothing. My mate is a fan of "The Fog" and has VHS, Betamax, video disc (the ones that are read with a stylus), Video CD, Laserdisc, DVD, HD-DVD as well as different versions from different countries on some of those formats.

I think his head has got a little foggy.

Don't. Already got it - it's features the worst packaging known to man. Mine was falling apart after just 4 days.

Yeah I decided against it as I don't have the patience to wait years for all the other seasons to follow at stupid prices so I just got the £60 box set which has them all except Razor (I still need that) :)

I bought that a little while ago.
Was initially dismayed to see it said 1080i on the box.
Nevertheless, when I played them, they were 1080p, with the exception of the last disk, which was 1080i.

Because it is a big war - there's a lot at stake for both sides. Oh - and why am I not surprised that you prefer HD DVD
He was talking about the selection availble, and I agree with him, even though I've no intention of ever buying a HD-DVD and I own a PS3 and intend to start buying Blu-rays, I've looked through the list of titles available on Blu-ray and there's so little there that interests me, probably 2-3 films in the whole library. In comparison there's probably 6-8 films on HD-DVD that I would like to own.
