George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling machine

Great for students :)

Toastys, sausages, burgers.
My flatmates cook everything in them, but bacon is so much better fried :)
Anyone putting steak in one should be shot.

I wish the ones we have back at uni had removable trays, they're always covered in crap from when no-one can be bothered to clean them.

thats what i was thinking too

however ive seen my flatmate at uni just cook frozen chicken in a pan and hes somehow still alive :/

is that safe ?

yes it is, it cooks from both sides straight away, so theres no way the middle will be 'uncooked' like if you put it in the oven, takes about 8 mins to cook it when defrosted, and about 12mins when frozen

its safer then leaving chicken around to defrost:)

I thought it was safer defrosting it.. i duno if id ever risk it especially chicken from frozen... i warned an ex a while ago about doing that.. but if it works for you cool... just dont get yourself poisoned!!

If you must save time defrosting something like a chicken breast, whack it in the microwave for about 5 minutes on a low power setting... Then cook it.

That's what I do. Whenever I cook chicken - like when frying for a meal.
Well, press the defrost button if there is one anyway :p

They are rubbish unless you are a health fanatic that thinks a tiny bit of fat on your food will give you a heart attack. You can't really cook anything that is going to taste of much they are just another kitchen fad.

Be honest have you ever seen a chef pull out a George Foreman and cook anything on one?

They are also complete ass to clean.

shove it at the back of the cupboard and forget about it... dries your food out

Never used ours.

I have this rather newfangled thing called a 'grill'. It's amazing, all the fat drips through this wire mesh that is used to support the food. Genius!

George foreman grill = *****

My dad bought me one for Xmas about 4 or 5 years ago and I can count on one hand the number of times I used it.

got one in the back of my car, just brought it from home to uni but im to lazy to even think about using it, microwave or starve!

Funny you should start a thread on this, I've just taken delivery of my new one today :D

Had a non GF one for years and found it really useful. I can't cook under a proper grill to save my life, always burn the food, and obviously try and stay away from fried food. Cleaning it really does my head in though so I have treated myself to a GF one with removeable plates.

Can't help you with recipies though, I just use it for things that you would use in a conventional grill - steak, sausages, mushrooms, chicken breast, burgers, grillsteaks, fish fingers etc.

I've never noticed the food to be dry either - but as I said earlier I cremate them in a normal grill so they are definitely less dry cooked this way!!!

They're good for burgers etc as said above, and i found chicken breasts, butterflied and marinated, work well, if you dont butterfly them they dry out as said though.

Put meat in it and close it

then a little while later take the meat out and put it in a bun

classic, they really are not that complicated, just make sure you clean it straight after using it, it is a lot easier than once all the goo is stuck on. Oh and when the collecting tray is full and needs emptying dont be fooled into thinking that the goo is dried solid too many times have I emptied old fat onto myself.
