F1 2007/2008 Winter Testing and Rumours

It should be very interesting to see how all the teams do with their new cars. The test results should be very interesting. In particular, I am interested in how McLaren do without Alonso's development/set-up skills and how Renault do now that they have their talisman back. If McLaren dont improve in the next 3 months, they will have only themselves to blame, in putting so much faith in a noob.

I'm pretty confident that Ferrari will wipe the floor with the opposition this year, so I'm not too interested in their test results.

The owner is a multi Billionaire ;)
He is worth billions, but doesnt have that money in the bank. That will be mostly made up of shares and the rest will be houses and investments etc, which he probably cant just get rid of.

To pick up a bit from the BBC comment above:-

Torro Roso = Sebastien Bourdais

Is he really going to be happy and indeed successful? Not many have jumped "that way" and come out without scars.

Successful? Not to the degree that he's used to but I don't see him sinking without trace. I think it's fair to say that STR will always be second to RBR so I wouldn't be surprised if he steps up to RBR for 2009.

Happy? Probably yes. Open wheel racing in the US is dying, all the big names are jumping to NASCAR, so to be able to get a drive in a semi competitive car in F1 isn't a bad jump. No idea what his family situation is, I assume he's been reasonably settled in the US but maybe a move to Europe has benefits beyond just the job.

... I will eat my hat if they're still about by 2011.

If they dont get results quickly, they may well pull out. They are spending money like its going out of fashion, in order to make their F1 journey a success, but it just isnt working out for them.

Oh god, Fisi has'nt gone yet then :( What a shame, hes a waste of space in my view. Glad Ralf has gone though.

To me, Toyota are one of those teams that dont go anywhere. They dont seem to improve or even get worse for that fact.

Any placed any bets on the drivers championship?

I'm willing to bet that appearance wise it's exactly the same as the TF107 but with the Kingfisher sponsorship missing! Oh and it's unveiled tomorrow at 09.30 our time.

Toyota rant: I can't quite place my finger as to why, but out of all the teams in F1 Toyota are the ones like the least. They only compete in F1 in order to try and gain some advantage over their motor industry rivals and apparently that plan hasn't exactly gone according to plan. Their ultimate goal is to improve awareness, gain reputation and increase sales.

Toyota lack passion and any ability to be good. They don't really promote F1 very well and to be honest I will eat my hat if they're still about by 2011.

So true, I think that they don't enjoy decent results, especially after their reasonable run in (2004?) a few podiums and a car that seemed alright? Quick! FIRE EVERYONE!!!!!!
Thank God they've got rid of the waste of space Schumacher. Hopefully Trulli improves his game a bit also. I want them to be a serious team but as it is, they're just a rich company with appaling management.*

*Emlyn does not claim he could do a better job

I couldn't agree more.

*Spunkey does claim his nan could do a better job. And she's in a mental home.

Fisi's been confirmed as Force India's #1 alongside Adrian Sutil, Tonio Liuzzi will be the test/reserve driver.

Toyota launch tomorrow. I will try and contain my excitement.
Watching the launch video here, all they've got is the car and three guys in dark grey suits, my god is it dull!

I was actually shocked to see Toyota launch a modern looking car for a change, albeit with copied parts.

Well there is copying an idea (and customising it, to fit into your design/aero) and just doing a copy & paste :)

When are Honda lanching their new car?
Hoping this is going to look way different from last years.

It should be different. Lets be honest, it probably cant be any worse than last year's car.

We shall see just how much of an effect Brawn has.

I believe that the only way Honda will start winning is when they get a top class driver. Button is too busy going on TV shows, eyeing up women and trying to get laid. He isnt what I would classify as a complete driver, in the vein of MS, Hamilton or Alonso. I would liken him more to Kimi, without Kimi's ulitmate pace.

If Honda do progress, I'm sure, Button will get the boot and will be replaced by a top driver capable of winning the title, who will only jump on board once the car can get podium places.

TBH, when Alonso became available, Honda had big chance of making quick progress by hiring Alonso and Brawn. I'm sure that having those 2 would've increased Honda's chances of winning in the near future.
