a) how many new visitors you have had to your site each month
b) total traffic to your site each month
c) what size the visitor screen was who viewed your site
d) any additional helpful information which enables you to find out if your site is going like you wanted it to?

pls help

thanks in advance..

Google Analytics

I use google analytics, but remember that as a script, it does not always fire - you should check your server logs using a tool such as awstats for more accurate information.

Though I personally use google analytics for the amazing graphics readout :D

if i dont have a special prog my host provides what can i do to view stats for my site? such as what search engine is used to find me, what pages people go to, how many hits per week / month etc??

remember i dont have it now but i need this info...my host is crap cant do anything, so what can i do now to see that info??

It's already been mentioned several times. Google Analytics.

Trip I realised that, I needed to know now , not install a prog which would gather data over a period of time then release that info...

cheers

If your webhost hasn't been logging, or doesn't give you access to server logs, then there's nothing you can do to view old statistics for your website.

<hijack> Are Surpass any good? I don't need five-nines uptime, but was wondering if you'd had many problems or not. I was with Dreamhost but found that I didn't need all the bandwidth that they offer for £60 p/year, and Surpass seem to be a good match. Thnx </hijack>

I'm another who uses Google Analytics its brilliant, basically gives you everything about your visitors except their shoe size :p.

For free web analytics you really should look no further than Google Analytics.

We used to use Web Trends, but Google Analytics is free and offers a wide range of functions and support.

If you've got adwords on the go you can link it in with that so it shows what ads are generating visits.

What keywoards they've typed into search engines, what resolutions are used on their desktops, where they are in the world, what pages have the highest bounce rate.

Best of all it's free, and it takes two minutes to set up.

Create an account, tell it what website to monitor, paste some javascript into an include file (or top navigation) on your site so it can monitor your whole site - and jobs a good'un
