There are 100s of bands as 'good' as Oasis

So do you listen to a band that releases unsimilar songs to each other?

My musical taste is irrelevant.

The point was, people are criticising Oasis for making a lot of songs that sound the same and yet many many bands of all genres of music make songs that often sound very similar.

People just slate other genres of music because they themselves dont like that particular style. :)

Majority of metal bands is just thrashy guitars and shouting and sounds very similar.
Genres of dance music all sound similar.
Jazz artists can sound similar from one song to the next.

And people saying I have no knowledge of music, huh the hell are you talking about :)

I think it's time for you to hand over the shovel matey.

Thing that I don't get is how people can so easily and outrightly dismiss entire genres of music. I can't think of any genre of music in which there is nothing of merit. Even r'n'b, pop and house (my least favourite genres), still can come out with some awesome output.

Why not try and argue the case rather than post meaningless drivel, discussion forum. :)

Because you're clearly going to struggle to see anything I place in front of you.

Genres of dance music all sound the same? Are you honestly going to sit there and tell me breaks, drum and bass, happy hardcore, minimal techno, and psy-trance all sound the same? It's not really worth trying to discuss it with you because you're clearly so uneducated on the matter. It's like trying to discuss quantum mechanics with a five year old. No matter how much you try and show them, it's an impossibility they'll actually understand it.

Two examples of dance music:

Infected Mushroom - Becoming Insane - http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z6hL6fkJ1_k

Limewax - Untitled 666 - http://youtube.com/watch?v=h6wDeqPPAAY&feature=related

MMMMMM so similar!

Apologies - I misread your post.
I totally agree.
People buy music by their favourite artists because they expect more of the same.

Originality is dead, i wish people would get over it. The best you can hope for is that someone takes a sound and puts their own style on it, but don't expect anything *new* ever again.

When would you say it died? (I don't agree with your post)

Carzy shows the patience I usually show with people. Odd that. But I do agree with him.

Who knows. The point is, there is so much music now that everything is derived from one extent to another from something else.

Everything is derived to an extent, but I don't think that completely removes the possibility of originality! I bet before electronic music came along, everyone thought everything had been done too.

You have clearly have not understood what I said you arrogant buffoon :)

Genres of dance music. Such as lots of drum and bass sounds similar, lots of house sounds similar, lots of hardcore sounds similar. This also applies to a lot of modern day band music.

Now, the doors over there so we can have a decent discussion.

Buffoon? Are you living in the 1920s or something?

Fair enough, I misread your post, I apologise.

Still, I think the point to realise is that Oasis make one kind of song, and that's it, which is what people are getting at. Good artists have the skill to produce a variety of different songs, and not just rehash the same old rubbish. Nothing wrong with having a few songs that have a similar style, but when the entirety of your career is made up of one idea looped over and over, that's when you have no merit.

Nice to see your reasonable discussion has descended into an inflammatory remark that serves no purpose other than to attempt to get a reaction.

Not so, if you look back over time you'll see I've made plenty of similar statements in the past :) Just as the 'Oasis are talentless morons ' group can get away with spouting rubbish, I'm not quite at that level.

I like metal. I like rock. I like some punk. I don't particularly like dance music, funk, classical, Jazz or even that extreme grindcore metal stuff that Penski listens to. But i'm not narrow minded enough to label it as not being music purely because I don't like it or even "get" it.
I like rock, I like dance, I like classical and jazz and pop and even some opera. I can think of songs and pieces of music in every single genre, but turn the distortion up and the skill level down and I switch off. It becomes noise. I can even get with grunge to a certain extent, because a lot of the time you can pick up on the fact that it is taking skills to make the sounds they do, but metal (particularly death metal, thrash metal, etc) is just noise. I don't credit it enough to acknowledge the fact that it is music because you can't hear any!

If the definition of "music" is limited to simple chord progressions and uncomplicated guitar solo's, then that would be very boring and undiverse.
I 100% agree with you.

Its almost as if because a fair few people have disagreed with you in this thread, you've chosen to derail it opposed to further debating your point :(
Disagreement is fine. This is all opinion and nothing more. I don't expect many people to agree with me when I say Pink Floyd make some of the worst music I've ever heard (though it is vastly improved by the Scissor Sisters) but it doesn't stop it being the case :)

[edit]I disagree entirely that Oasis can only make one song. Listen to Masterplan/Talk Tonight and then listen to D'you know what I mean/Some might say. Same song? Nope.

It can't be argued that they don't have a style, but who doesn't?

Im not disagreeing with the fact Oasis are kind of formulaic, my original point was many many popular bands are the same and you get moronic comments such as "whine whine oasis are rubbish everything sounds the same" and yet if that person listed their musical tastes then I would bet half the artists listed would fall into a similar category :)

I dunno, buffoon is more amusing than tard, pleb, chump, whatever ;)

I'm guessing you just heard some death metal, didn't like it, and blanketed all metal under that sound?

What about Iron Maiden? Skilled musicians, minimal distortion. Metal music. Even if you don't like them, you can surely acknowledge that's music.

Keep away from the personals please guys.

Can't say I've heard much Iron Maiden. Black Sabbath put me off completely.

I hate Black Sabbath, but I don't think of them as just noise. Do you?

And, he called me a buffoon! I'm pretty hurt.
