Why is it that 'enthusiasts' seem to have a real problem with objectivity when their 'baby' is concerned? Cars to me are so much more than a simple numbers game, and though I am sure the Skoda is very quick, (the 'numbers' would certainly indicate that), to call it an M3 beater is a little one dimensional and suggests that the owner has aspirations to make his car something it simply isn’t. It looks a really nice Skoda, and seems nicely realised but I would suggest you leave it there. It’s a very different car to an M3 and though it may be similar to an M3 in a straight line, I can't see it being as rounded or as broad in its capabilities, be they objective or subjective. The S54 engine is one of the greatest mass production car engines ever, in CSL form it might even be the best, and RWD is always going to have advantages when you get the power levels up, around and over 300bhp, and be more pleasurable to drive quickly when the road starts to twist.
I am sure it would run an M3 close in a straight line, at those sorts of levels of difference in performance the gaps would be small anyway, but to call it an M3 beater, putting the current dodgy image of the M3 to one side, is to me wide of the mark. There seems to be a perception with some ‘modders’ that matching statistics or bettering them makes their car better, which is naive and more often than not wrong if you ask me.
