you either 'get' Metal or you dont.

Then theres gilly who seems to think his opinion is fact.

I quite like Oasis.
Didnt at the time bar "look back in anger", its only when you look back to then, to what we have now, that you wish that those songs where released today because they walk over almost everybody thats out there at the moment.

Where did I say it was all power chords? I said it was possible to play metal music with power chords and distortion.

Because I do not like something I am hounded for this, and have been again here. However, those who oppose my opinion speak the same way I do. Only because you agree with them do you not whinge that they speak in 'fact' as do I.
 
The chorus of "Don't Look Back In Anger" is the biggest crime in musical history. Gives me nightmare memories of football hooligans waving their arms above their heads along to it in ****-soaked nightclubs.

My mate said it best it one night as he surveyed the dancefloor:
"Remember in Apocalypse Now when Kurtz is telling Willard about the VC amputating the arms of children innoculated by the Americans?..."

How far does your dislike of Metal reach? I mean how far down the Rock scale?

Personally I hate all the growling and shouting. I dislike guitars that sound like fast drum rolls.

I like rock music. I like Led Zep, AC/DC, Mr Big, G'n'R, and Judas Priest. Hate Black Sabbath because Ozzy Osborne can't sing. Like a couple of Metallica songs but that's about it.

But when I listen to some of the playing on the Metal stuff, especially the drumming guitar sound that I dislike, I can't help but be very impressed by what they do, even though it's music that I can't listen to for more than two minutes.

I don't go into threads saying "indie music is ****, anyone can play it"

Yes it is, a very small subset of it, just as it's possible to play some indie music with just an a chord, an e chord, and d chord, and it's possible to play some dance music with one finger on a keyboard from Argos. So what? It's not representative of any of those musical styles.
 
Gilly just dislikes metal, you can't really argue against that or try to prove otherwise to someone who just generally doesn't get on with a certain genre.

Luckily, when he says Metal is rubbish, we can all sleep safe in the knowledge that we know that it is not a fact, and is nowhere near the truth. :)

I think its more to do with that he is completely closed to it, and cannot even understand why some people like it.

Dance music for instance, hate it, seems to be the same rehashed, sample-an-old-tune-and-put-a-new-beat-to-it (and if we're really lucky, we might get some new lyrics). However, I appreciate that some people like it and understand why, its fit for its purpose.
 
I have never read so many posts that really had to have had "IN MY OPINION" scrawled across them like a government stamp.

Oasis was never a big favourite of mine, but I do recognise the popularity and there is some amount of charisma there (however the small population slice of this forum seem to disagree).

I also don't understand why ColumnMatrix is lashing out at Tool - his arguement seems as legit as screaming "YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ORANGES AS YOU LIKE EATING MANGE-TOUT YOU PEA EATING FOOL!"

Oasis were good in there day, they pleased a lot of people - and the HUNDREDS of bands as "good" as Oasis, well thats all subjective isn't it? Personally i'd rather stick on Loveless by My Bloody Valentine over an Oasis CD, but thats my prerogative isn't it?

lets be honest a measure of how good music is is formed from if you like it or not, so like = good music, dislike = bad music.

so anyone whose saying oasis are best band ever just like them a lot, and people saying they are crap dislike them, theres no real way to measure how good music is, and even measuring the complexity of it doesn't tell you how good that piece of music is either, its all opinion hence your not gonna change anyones opinion and this argument isn't going anywhere soon.

go listen to what you want to and stop telling other people whats good and whats bad.

I don't think thats the problem in this thread.
The problem is that some people can't accept that the musicianship is any good if its a music you don't like.
I absolutely hate jazz but I know the best musicians are in that genre.
I also can't do with really heavy metal but once again I accept the musicianship is of a very high standard.
Oasis may not be the best musos in the world but they are as tight as a ducks ass.
