Radeon HD 3870 X2 Launch On Jan 23rd, Costs US$449

TBH for a card like this (ie one whos performance relies on CF/SLI) you would be daft to purchase it / pre-order it before seeing some concrete benchmarks.

by this I don't mean it will be rubbish however I will want to see proper benchmarks before dropping any money on the card.

forgive me if i am reading this wrong, but is that not the gist of what i said (just in a roundabout way!?)

£320 they can ram it, i'll order it from america if it hits anywhere near that over here. Imo even £275 is tearing the ass out of it.

£225 * 1.175 = £264. It will not be less than that, with any other costs that may be involved (shipping, for example) it'll likely be £275 for the cheaper ones.

no chance - I can get it cheaper buying from america.

£225 for the card, £20 for shipping and if it gets caught you'll have to pay a set fee of £8 (I did anyway) and the VAT on top. It would end up costing you over £300 if they include the shipping fees in the price.

No such worried to be honest mate, ATi NEED thiscard to be their main event they will support it ridiculously, with the 8.1drivers on their way as we speak and should be released on the day the card comes out or a few days before they are taking this launch very very seriously! Expect Ati to deliver with these drivers now time after time ;) Also crossfire is very effective as a dual GPU setup right now!

And for everyone who is asking I answered it earlier ;) You need a x16 pci slot as it divides it by x8 and x8 for each of the GPU's on board so just make sure you have a x16 PCI-E lane and your laughing :D It's the chip in between the two GPU's on board that does all the crossfire stuff on the hardware so you dont have to worry

As a side note, what are the crossfire drivers like these days? Are they getting the drivers updated quickly when a new major game (Crysis for example) is released? Not long ago you had to wait a while before the game was supported and two cards would run slower than one card. I used to have sli and on the whole was quite happy with it. Big boost's and able to apply lots of AA/AF. Does crossfire offer the same advantage or does AA/AF still suck? Do these things even need crossfire drivers for one card?

Its amazing that so many people are getting excited/ eager to see if this card can take on Nvidia. I just wish it could be released now, and then we can all see some benchmarks and see what this card can/cannot do !!

Does anyone have definite confirmation of the release date !! I have read all the quotes of 23rd but as of yet not confirmed :-(

They were released yesterday. :)

Yea noticed after I posted mate....been out the loop because of uni work  So I may need to purchase an x2 on the 25th to cheer me up after some.....hard graft! haha!

Also on reading the release notes I noticed quite a few mentions of Crossfire and 2560x1600 changes or whatever the crazy resolution is :p

this is annoying, I just phoned up ati and they have no info themselves, they dont even know if you need cross fire or cross fire x. useless.

it wouldnt even break nda as they have already said in numerous statements that it has 2 gpu's. surely they should know if their crossfire technology can take 4 3870's in 2 slots.

Yup nda's are just an annoyance, all the info was leaked about this card weeks back yet they still stick by this nda crap which is now meaningless. OMG THEY MIGHT FIND OUT ABOUT SOMETHING THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT WEEKS BACK!!!1111

Id expect some sites to jump the gun on the review though, if i remember right there was a 2900xt review up a few days before the pointless disclosure agreement was over.

They might be paranoid due to the fact that Nvidia are releasing a dual core GPU also, still its probably the worst kept secret in a while.

Really wouldn;t make a difference if ati has moved the launch forward theres not much nvidia can do to counter it till their dual card thingy hits.
