The only people who think Microsoft have given us excellent operating systems are the people who've never used a proper Unix or Linux OS. It's not even funny how much more you can do with a proper OS.

Remember, Microsoft are the company that has given the world the Blue Screen of Death, the Red Rings of Death (see a pattern here?), frequent Word crashes, thumbs its nose up at the law of the land, abuses it's monopoly on a daily basis, paid lip service to security in it's OS and applications (e.g. IIS), and charges mega bucks for the privilege.

I hate Sony as much as anyone, I just hate MS more.

I administer two Linux webservers and they are not as rock solid as you think. I have used Ubuntu that takes a way a lot of the power of command line Linux but that is what GUIs do by dumbing things down.

Oh and lets not get started on how Sony ignores competive laws, open source companies ignore patent law and Apple stick there fingers up to consumers because we are attacking the bug bad Microsoft .

Grow up FFS, MS are a big target that's why peoplego after them while comapnies that are considered en vogue atm can get away with murder and still make shed loads of money

OK well at least the article I posted contains something other than opinion and speculation (albeit the figures in the OP are clearly being used as sales spin)

All I was saying is the OP article doesn't really tell us anything that we didn't already know, that being that the Xbox sells well within the US (it always has) and that Microsoft are good at charging ludicrous amounts for anything and everything no matter how tiny (Live service, extra content etc). We all ask why they didn't include HD-DVD in 360 and in the end it comes down to loss of profit.

Given that Microsoft had a full year without any competition whatsoever it's really no surprise that they are in such a position, the question is can they hang onto it as PS3 becomes a more and more attractive proposition?

Hardware shmard ware, they are games consoles and the games won it. Look at the releases the Xbox 360 had in 2007, so many top quality titles, gamers will go where the best games are.

:D My feelings exactly
Yeeeowch, sorry there little miss molly menopause, you may not have been talking to me, I was merely pointing out that the article (that I posted) that you were referring to is written by Microsoft employees...I don't understand how people can decide they can comment on something without being bothered to read it properly?

Oh I read it, maybe you should read it better?

Gamerscore Blog is written by members of Microsoft Games Global Marketing team. While we make every effort to be accurate, these posts will often include our opinion, and might not reflect the view of the company, our partners, or our management.

Ahem, so it is not an official MS statemement, so people getting on their high horse saying MS boasting about how much money they made, are wrong, which was my point, but carry on if you must :)

So again where is the MS statement talking about money made, there is none, so why are you even bothering to challenge that? I think you have got the wrong end of the stick.

Yes article author, not an official MS statement, not an official MS press release, a blog that has no official standing at MS, can we move on now?

You are the one assuming its official not me :)

Nintendos report on the NPDS

Wonder how that compares with what microsoft said, anyway just Sonys repsonse to come .

Both are right. Xbox is more expensive, it's games are more expensive and it has a larger base as it has been out longer. However nintendo have sold more hardware during '07 and have made massive profit while sony/MS have made massive losses.

BTW this is just US data. Worldwide nintendo is even further ahead, even without many games...

Just read the thread.. and it is encouraging news..

I don't know how any fanboy can spin it as a negative.. it's clear the 360, despite the appauling technical RROD issue still has the highest attach rate for software, no wonder they are bringing in much more money..

When the PS3 gains some ground this year/next year then that will be good too... where's the 'issue' that some of you have in always attacking the opposite side??

Sony fanboys should be thanking MS for lowering the price of their console, and invigorating what could easily have become a stale and stagnant market..

I just have to laugh when fanboys are now trying to discredit MS with the Nintendo figures.. for the love of god, just step back from the bitterness, and be rational for a minute ;)

As soon as you accept the massive disclaimer about this so called official source then maybe you can move on, I already did 6 hours ago :) it's non official, its not endorsed by MS and is just a blog.

A official press release from gamerscore blog is not an official MS press release, its an official release from that site, a site that has well the disclaimer you seem to ignore :)

If I were a Sony zealot right now, I'd be far more concerned at how few games the PS3 is shifting in the US than I would about a M$ marketing release! Relative to the number of consoles sold, all their top games are selling incredibly poorly, which is even more worrying when you consider the dearth of good games available on the system during that year - it can't bode well for PS3 when companies like Epic rellease a high profile PS3 exclusive like UT3 and see such poor sales in comparison to their similar 360 franchise!

With regards to software sales its all in the statement, the 360 has a 3x bigger user base than the PS3 and most games out sell there PS3 versions by either 2 or 3 to 1. So the 360 with 3x as many consoles sells on average less than 3 x as many games, makes sense to me.
UT3 has sold approx 180K on the PS3, thats more than on the PC according to NPD, in an interview today Mark Rein said he was very happy with Sales of UT3 on the PS3 and the PC even if its not the fastest selling version of UT.

I dont know why people argue which one is better, I mean cumon its only a console at the end of the day and they both do their job very well. I like them both but only went for a 360 because of it being cheaper, simple as.

It's all opinions in the end anyway, It's just 1 or 2 on here want their opinion to be seen as gospel.

I think the 360 is fantastic, and I also think the playstation 3 is fantastic.

But you'll always get the guy that comes along and says, Yeah but the 360 is better because blah.

I couldn't careless if that's what they think. I don't think that.
