Am I a right bugger for not doing it? / Rant warning

1. The blood is mine and i hate the thought of my blood going to someone whose fault it is they're in a bad situation. e.g suicide, self inflicted car crash or idiocy. My blood. Not theirs.
I don't get it, again, what's the damage to you?

I would have told her straight, its your life you can do what you want,

Pfft, putting you on the spot just like that, how pathetic.

As for giving, i would liek to give blood, just to save someones life..

I would have probably turned around and said something like "come on, that's not fair, I sponsored X a few years back...not all of us can afford to give that sort of stuff to charities".
Key thing is to bite your tongue, mildly defend your own dignity whilst also mildly pumping their egos - works for me anyway.

I would be well miffed if i gave someone £5k and they turned round and gave it to charity. As for blood well I dont give it and I have no intention to, same with charities I will never ever as long as i live give to charities.

It's a personal choice, which is why it's strange why she should bring it up so readily.

Next time if she annoys you, tell her "If you really cared love you'd be out there helping instead of just throwing money at a problem and hoping it will go away..." :p

She's just trying to be Alpha. It's a status thing - she's buying social status with donations and with giving blood. Tiny woo. Her attempts to ostentatiously demonstrate what a good person she is are doomed to failure, because they make it obvious that she is being self-serving.

Your comment reminds me of the priest (vicar, whatever) of a coworker of mine, who raised the same point during a sermon, regarding people who put a few quid on the collection plate and think they're wonderful for doing so, but don't actually do anything. He does charitable work every day and doesn't bang on about it, so he walks the walk.

I know I'm a git about giving blood and giving to charity. But here's the breakdown.

1. The blood is mine and i hate the thought of my blood going to someone whose fault it is they're in a bad situation. e.g suicide, self inflicted car crash or idiocy. My blood. Not theirs.

2 I refuse to give to charity, I've seen endless adverts trying to guilt trip me into giving money and I think its a unfair tactic. Dogs don't talk or write letters which is stupid in itself, and i know kids are beaten and people are dying but with the statistics available telling you the percentage of your donation which goes directly to them, it doesn't add up that it makes a difference. And I'm a student! In debt! People who tell me I should give should consider my £7000 debt.

1) You can easily make more blood. Someone bleeding to death because some thug has glassed them can't do so quickly enough. Someone hit by a car driven by a drunk can't, either. Nor can someone who needs an operation because they were born with a heart defect that will kill them if they don't have the operation.

So what if some of it might go to someone who got themselves into a bad situation? It isn't as though you have a limited supply.

I don't donate blood because the transfusion service doesn't want mine any more, but I used to donate often.

2) You could chose a reputable charity.

You don't have to give blood or donate to charity, but the reasons you give for not doing so are lame (apart from your own debt).

Wise words indeed sir. And true

Gay. :p
Nah, there's plenty of reasons from areas travelled to and tatoos etc.

This thread is ancient. I've seen my brother's son born and learn to walk and talk since it was made.

Can you nephew say " unnecessary thread revival" yet? :D
