$3,000,000,000,000,000 Lawsuit for Katrina Victim

They don't think that, but in the US you can sue for more than amount you 'lost' due to whatever. A lot of the time those sort of claims win too, so you can't blame people for trying. Well, you can but you know what I mean :p

i think the legal term is "Punitive Damages"

I believe an extortionate claim was filed a while ago in the USA, merely to prove a point and get media attention. I can't remember what for though. Looks like it has worked.

They always do it in America. Take the sue Jesus one. Nothing more than media attention. Just seems silly that they can file it and waste money.

Thats awesome.

Its such a ridiculous amount, i hope they win :D

LMAO

I hate the "lawsuit culture" but at least these have a reason for it, albeit for a much smaller amount than that.

I despise the "I was sprinting along a corridor when I slipped on the polished floor, i won £12,000" people. Use your eyes. The floor is polished, hence slippery. Use caution.

Madness, especially with the current state of credit crunch and how much money US actually have, inc its credits abroad to e.g. China. If there were any chance of a win or even half that amount seeked, I can see US economy and insurance going down oblivion.

That's my hidden plan in moving to Atlanta, I get to look smart all the time, not just some of it. ;)

lol good plan.
someone I know from texas said the berlin wall is in china, and I could name more states than her. She couldnt name 5 european countries and shop assistasts asked if we (me and my uk mate) were from australia (seriously how thick can you be!?). shes 22 and her parents force her to go to church and people have 'real men love jesus' bumper stickers lol
obviously not all americans are stupid, but there are so so so many that match the stereotype perfectly.
