Come on lets have a hands up here from all you 3870 owners, would you have still bought the 3870 if it was still called a 2900, im guessing no hands have gone up.
Why have you bought a 3870, why did you not buy a 2900 even though they are the same cards, im guessing your saying, as the 2900's are poor, everyone knows that, exactly, but at the end of the day, you have bought those poor 2900's as AMD have relaunched them under a new name, AMD have done what they set out to do, sell their 2900's.
main reasons to get a 3870 over a 2900 is the 3870 offers 2900 level of performance for considerably less power consumption, and also the 3870 is far cheaper to buy.
Speaking from experience?Yea people going from a 2900 to a 3870 can finally decommission that nuclear powerplan in there back yard

Im sorry but It is just a die shrink, i have linked to the specs, the specs that make it the exact same cards, if they were not the same carsd, streams, rops etc... would be different, they ain't, HDMI, Dx10.1 instructions are not going to magically make the 2900's a lot faster/better carsd than they are now.

Exactly, 2900 level performance, yes thats right, they would expect the same performance as its the same card, just uses less power as its been shrunk.
LoadsaMoney is pretty close to the truth though, really it's just a (very) minor refresh of the 2900XT design, with the addition of some minor features. The only significant change is the die shrink which gives the main benefit of reduced power consumption.
pfff....
3dmark06 is only vaguely related to actual games, games still perform worse on ati's cards than 3d mark does, 3dmark favours ati...
3dm06 is just to test if your card is performing okay ( to other the same cards) but the only accurate performance can be concluded from actual games.
EDIT :
By no means the 3780 is a bad card, I migth consider upgrading from my 8800GTS g92 to 2x 3780 in crossfire, it would only cost me 80 more euro's, the only thing I'm worried about is power, having a 550w psu...

Yes I only changes due to the heat and noise the 2900 produced, the 2900 was a good card in every right.

and for those who are not aware the 2900 performance is crap compared to even a 8800gt, thats why the 3870 is slower than a 8800gt.
that site the op linked to just adds another reason why not to trust the germans.

P.S, I also want to see Dual Core set ups that act as a single card and use the full Memory (not sure how though).
I think I could have been wrong about the Asus Dual Core 6800GT and Gigabyte Dual Core 6600GT not showing up as SLI.

The only reason the GT and new GTS are significantly faster over the old GTS is because they have had major changes, the texture units etc... have been increased, the 3870's though are still the same 320 streams, 16 rops etc..., the GT and new GTS have been changed more over the old GTS, than the 3870 has over the 2900.
now thats what i want to see happening too. but i doubt its going to happen any time soon.

But I'm pretty tired of the issues with nvidia tbh, since I upgraded from my 6800GS to an 8800GT wich was dud, then got an GTS, and now I see I have a lot of texture shimmering, more than on the 6800GS, and the card is overheating on stock fan settings ( but the problem it is hard to rma it coz of this as it can be fine for upto 3 hrs and then crash, I know it's this because sicne I manually set the fan speed to 80 % I have yet to see a single crash, and opening the window of my room making my room cooler also prevents crashes even on auto settings, what bothers me that even ingame the auto fan speed stays @ just 36% or so), really want to give the 3780's a go but with 5 hdd's etc I'm just afraid my psu won't cope and I can't afford a new one, stupid ati, if only the power requirement was less I'd gladly buy 2 of theirs and crossfire them. Prefer to lose a bit of performance tbh for stability and resolving of all the stupid annoyement mainly texture shimmering.
