Football Fixtures 19-20th January **Spoilers**

As for Liverpool, how oh how are they not learning from their mistakes? Someone said 18shots to Villa's 4. That's the story of their season - they completely dominate matches, but just don't do enough. So unbelieveably frustrating.

Simply because the only striker they play each week is Torres, he's the only guy in their side that looks like he's going to score when he's on the ball.

He's the only player in their squad that you generally think he's more likely to score than miss when he's on the ball.

Kuyt isn't good enough for a side that realistically should be pushing us (Man United), Arsenal and Chelsea to the title every year.

Crouch again, no matter how much the Liverpool loyal love the guy - he isn't a big four type of striker... that said I'd rather play him over Kuyt if I was picking the squad and he does have a knack of being in the right place at the right time and getting goals.

I would say that Babel is a player that I've liked for a few years now (even before he joined Liverpool) and if nurtured right he does have a lot of potential... but right now he isn't an out and out forward and will need time to grow.

Care to name anyone else that would get a look in then?

I'd hazzard a guess at Xabi Alonso and maybe Mascherano but other than that I really don't see any players that stand out.

I was going to add those two along with Reina to the list, maybe Agger when fit

I couldn't agree more - but it's just been going on so blooming long and benitez has had so many opportunities to make changes by bringing in goalscorers or players who can beat their man that I'm starting to think benitez prefers draws to victories

what rubbish, Villa only played well for 15 mins max in the whole of that match, we hit the self destruct button once again

They deserved to knick it simply because you couldn't finish them off.

When their chances came they took them.

They played better in the second half and the last 20 minutes or so they seemed the better side (until Liverpool equalised).

As I said, they deserved to knick it in the end... for the first 70 minutes of the match the were asleep and looked to be really lost without Barry in midfield. I'm not saying they were the better side during the whole game - no need to break out the

I think mascherano could get into any team in the world - i never see him do anything wrong, other than sometimes give small fouls away. Each time he has the ball at his feet you know 100% the ball's safe - hes not going to lose it. There's no other player like that I've seen.
He was rubbish against us (Man Utd) and kept passing us the ball when we played earlier in the season.

He wouldn't get into the Man Utd midfield as a definite starter (I would like him as a squad player), but I wouldn't be so bold as to say he'd get into any team, as that's not true. Maybe squad, but not first 11.

From Liverpool I'd take Reina, Agger, Gerrard, Mascherano and Torres. I wouldn't think about anyone else and of those, only 2 would start for Man Utd for me (Reina and Gerrard).

Damnit, another lead given away, but would have taken it at half time.

Marlon Harewood - absolute legend!

I'd love to see a statistic on Steven Gerrard's % shots within 50 yards of the goal tonight!

Care to say why you wouldn't take Xabi Alsono? I personally quite like him.

I'm not 100% on Reina so I'm keeping my hand close to my chest on that one.

He was quite out of character that match. Who knows why, maybe tevez was giving him some argentinian jip in the tunnel, or something

I'd for sure go for mascherano ahead of hargreaves. They're very similar players but in my opinion mascherano's stronger and (barring that utd match) a little less erratic.

Carrick's a different player though and a harder one to compare as his passing game is that much more accomplished. Horses for courses, I guess

Carrick has been a bit off form recently for us though, been a bit odd really since he was good for us last year.

2-2 result :(

goal attempts 18-4

Tbh with your lack of finishing (Gerrard's pathetic attempts from 25 yards going 18 wide and 40 high) you didn't really deserve 2! Can't honestly say we did, but a very well taken goal by Harewood, and a generally entertaining game all round.

Bit unlucky with the OG, but hey, they all count!

Much as it pains me to say it but... for once i agree with nokkonwud. (I think maybe Alonso too, not on current form though) Spine of the Liverpool team is about all that would get into any of the current top three sides. :(

Pretty much sums up our season. Its obvious which players have it, and which dont. Its also obvious in the most obvious sense that Benitez simply hasn't got a clue in the league. He may be good in Europe, but in the PL, its not happening. He just plainly doesn't understand, or even worse, he does understand but is too stubborn to change.

This game tonight, aswell as the many other disjointed and broken performances we've given so far this season I think tells a story. Not just about the off-pitch problems, but more so about the coaching staff.

When Pako left something happened behind the scenes, and we as a "team" have completely disappeared. I dont know if its just me, but I get the feeling Benitez doesn't really care anymore.

Seriously, I know a lot of the fans are supporting him because he has done some great things, but honestly, over the past few months, Benitez has looked like he'd rather be somewhere else and its reflecting on the team. I think many players in the team have lost faith in him (Gerrard and Carragher are some of them.)

The whole mess with the owners and their stupidness has actually overridden a lot of Benitez' woes this season. Because if you take away that trouble, you are left with a ****-poor performance by a manager who should be doing FARR better than he is. Especially when you consider the sides who are level with us.

I just cant see him staying because I can't see him turning the team around this season at all. If he had shown signs of adapting and changing and boosting his team, I'd say give him time... but he hasn't. Today was his opportunity to rally his side after the support he was getting from the fans, but he's simply threw it away...

You cant keep making excuses for Benitez, the same mistakes, week in, week out.

He just will not back down over his team selections.

Stop talking nonsense, Rafa needs more time and much more money and we Arsenal + Man utd fans should offer him our full support in times like these. :D
