OK, I'm after 500GB of network attached storage and I have several options from what I can see.

For £125 I can get a 500GB Lacie NAS

It will cost me £160ish to get the Icybox NAS Enclosure and good 500GB drive.

I know the Enclosure allows me to add another drive at a later date but does it give any other benefits over the Lacie option?

Cheers.

I had the Icy Box IB-NAS4220-B NAS with a 500gb samsung and i had loads of greif (also the spindown feature doesnt work atm) but raidsonic dont seem to be in any rush to release a firmware update.

Any how that went back and now i have myself the freecom 500gb network drive - wich i got for £93 from a competitor and it just works and is easy to set up - but theres no fancy torrent downloader unless you buy the pro version.

The Synology Disk Station is supposed to be prety good but pricey.

Those WD Mybook things look about as physically appealing as a 25 stone granny wearing a thong.

The Freecom one is understated and looks like it would fit well with the rest of my stuff.
With the Pro version, how secure is it for accessing via the internet? As liable to "hackers" as a normal PC or more liable?

I have one of the silver WD disks with Firewire and it looks really well! Its up to personal opinion I guess but a disk is a disk at the end of the day.

True, it's a disk but it's going to be sat in the unit under my telly and I don't want it to look out of place, and I think the WD would look funny.

No offence to your suggestion intended, it is exactly what I was after lol.

No offence taken! Do a google image search for large pics and you'll see it looks not too bad!
