In your opinion, what was the greatest console of all time?

Dreamcast was the best console in terms of technical ability, controller, features but was let down by only having a handful (or two) of really good games. Real shame as it had so many clever ideas for its time (VMU, network adaptor), VGA output) but was overlooked by developers.

I will always have a soft spot for the SNES though, Mario World, Kart, Zelda, Street Fighter II, etc. Spent so many hours playing those and they are probably where the blame lies for me getting into gaming!

For me the snes has been played the most - namely Supermario World, and Supermario Kart. i played them all the time when they came out, and even still now i love playing them. ive completed Supermario World from start to finish Many Many times.... Best 2D platformer of all time imho.

Next up i think the PS1 as it was such a big hit when it came out, and so many games at the time.

Finally i would say the Wii - its got to be a future classic. i have said for some time now that i would never buy another games console, as in the past whenever ive bought one its always got neglected due to gaming on the PC. i bought a PS2 when they were first released.. and that didnt get used much, so i swore to myself i wouldnt buy anymore consoles.... well ive proved myself wrong, and bought a Wii... and i love it. Something new and different that everyone can join in with :D

1, Gizmondo - Obviously.
2, CD-i - Zeldas warrented a purchase alone
3, Atari 5200 - Best controller bar none.

No contest for me:

Dreamcast - Quake 3 arena online on a 33.3k modem :D

Oh and also Shenmue for being the first game on any system that I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor after playing it. (visually)

Megadrive for me.

Myself and two mates spent literally months playing PGA tour 1,2 and Euro tour. Also EA hockey was a fantastic laugh trying to chip the keeper from the halfway line with our patented "floaty tester" :D

It's between the snes and N64. The snes for it's diversity of great games and for bringing SF2 home, and the N64 for the sheer quality of its games. Four out of my current top 10 games are N64 games, with a few more sniffing around in the teens.

My top 3.

1. NES - still have it some where in the attic. I wonder if it still works.. I hope so I want to play some Mario.

Greatest ever console imo. :)

2. Playstation

3. PS3

:)

Where is the love for the Sega Saturn people?

*laughs*

When it comes to playing games on any machine though the Atari ST rules all. :D :D

Kick Off!! What an awesome game, I spent so many house playing that game in the morning before I went to school. Plus a F1 style racing game that I used to play all the time but I canny remember the name of it now. :(

Geoff Crammonds Formula 1 Grand Prix :D Was an awesome game - better on the Amiga though IMO :p

My top 3:

1) SNES
2) N64
3) Dreamcast

The Dreamcast only just edges out the Gamecube for me, and I think I'm basing that purely on Shenmue! It just had so many perfect games for me, and it took a lot of my gaming time. Shamefully, it never had a decent footy title beyond Virtual Striker 2.

I adored the Gamecube, but it does lack that spark the Dreamcast seemed to have. It's perhaps rose-tinted specs, because I was playing my Gamecube on Saturday (Pikmin 2... where's 3 for Wii eh?!)

SNES & N64 speak for themselves.

dreamcast was amazing
but its pretty hard to beat n64 and goldeneye - even today

i have played a lot of multiplayer fps recently, its scary to think what all these new a+ titles would be like if goldeneye never existed

N64 without a doubt. Nothing has ever come close to it for me since. First time i ever played Goldeneye with 4 friends can never be beat. 4 player gaming had never been seen properly and was totally amazing. Especially when you look back at it now. Some of the best games of all time were on the N64. To be able to experience them when they were new was great.
