i drove my dads bmw, i mean the car my dad bought me to drive to school in, to the frankfurt motorshow literally days after i passed my test.
i did 230km/h on the autobahn, did this make me an awesome driver?

no, i **** myself when i entered a corner in one lane and exited it in another. i realised i had **** all skill and slowed down
 
I'm sorry, but I know of a chap who races in that palmer audi racing thing.

He 17/18, he drives his dads porsche from time to time. I would trust his driving over a 75 year old pensioner who has been driving for 50 years. Or a 40 year old fat businessman in a mondeo.

Anyway fox, how many accidents have you had :p

see, things like knowing/anticipating the amount of momentum youll be having to manage, how much grip youre likely to have to play with are only things you can gain with experiance

as a new driver, the first time you experiance something like that is going to be well scarey (esp when the world slows down and goes slow mo and you think... im doing xxxMPH if i get it wrong im dead lol)

that isn't at all relevant though, he's a racing driver!

i highly doubt kirkland or the dude in the M5 is/was
 
End of the day this was a 2008 BMW he can only of had it for a very short period of time. It's not like he's been responsibly driving it for months and months upon end in the thing. He wasn't even used to the car, he hopped in thinking his **** was bigger than his brain in front of all his mates and look how it's turned out.

There is no rule, it should be dealt with on a case by case basis imo.

You can't just blanket all 18 year old drivers as morons with no brains because it's totally not true. Maybe 80% or whatever are but there are still many who aren't, whatever the insurance companies may think.

There will always be special exceptions, those who have been brought up into racing etc where they have been born and bred into driving. They have experience from as young as 7 and do it weekend after weekend all their lives.

You can't really classify anyone, but there is common knowledge and common sense. Having a bump and learning from your mistakes is what life is about, some are luckier than others and some are just plain arrogant and ignorant.

I'd trust a career driver over some who drives to aid their career.

What do you want them to do, give 18 year olds cheap insurance because 20% arn't idiots.

Know a similar racing bloke in my school at the moment, drives the cars below F1 cars, not sure what it is but will be moving onto F1 cars sometime next year, drives his dads Aston now and then but mostly drives his e55. The 18 year old has skills..

I'm 17, i've just passed, and i drive my mums ford ka 1.3! I'm glad i don't have anything faster, i know i would crash! I recently did a 0-60 test, 13 seconds ;) And a top speed test along a bypass, had to slow down when i got to 100, took about 2-3 miles to get up to this speed :p! If i had a faster car i know i would end up going to fast round corners, and one day there would be a kid in the road or something, and i wouldn't want to drive ever again. I'd rather save the fast cars for when im content at going the speed limits (when im older), and only let it roar on the motorways! Also, anyone with a posh car at my age gets mocked for being a daddy's boy! When your 17 your meant to have a crap car! It the done thing, if you have an amazing car at 17 what have you got to look forward to in later life!
