The PlayStation 'HOME' Information Thread!

Tbh Home probably will blow XBL away.

Live doesn't try to be something like HOME though, Live is just a simple service that lets you easily join friends in game, view friends in game etc...

Whilst i'm really looking forward to HOME Sony are using it to cover -/s up such as not being able to use XMB in game, send messages in game etc...

Anyway maybe would could stop this turning into a LIVE Vs HOME thread?

It's meant to be both, that's the point.

From what I have seen its just second life with mini games. It wouldn't interest me as I want to play full decent games. I have heard of what it is supposed to be but so far I have seen little evidence from Sony.

Sony have the the PS3 has a lifespan of 10 years. So make what you will of when they will bring out their next console.

Soulja has just posted a reply which basically sums it up for me. XBL and Home are not something which will be competing against each other.

I'd be very very shocked if Sony have a new console (not incl. handhelds or phones :D) out in the next 4-5 years at least.

I would be quite surprised too (edit: and slightly disappointed, can't see a need to rush out something new).

Looking forward to trophies, but would be perfectly happy with a 2d representation (like the medals in RR7, only online :)). The 3d personal space interests me and would probably take up some of my time initially so I can have a mess about building different areas (sorta appealing to the same sense in me that Sim City etc does) but I think Sony are trying to expand to different gaming demographics with Home - I'm not particularly fussed but I can see how it would appeal to others :)

My comment that home would blow xbl away was not a better or worse statement - I was saying that I thought it would be a lot more popular. I don't have either and have no intention of getting either so am not interested in making fanboyish comments. With regards to the fact that xbl and home are aiming for different thing that does not matter as their platforms are in direct competition which places the online elements in competition.

I've been deluded for so long and thanks to this thread I've seen the light.
Why was I content with an intergrated system of friends/games/leader boards all accessible in game when I can actually walk around as an avatar of myself in my own virtual lounge. I'll be able to visit friends (when they're not in game), watch films on a virtual 2" TV and play Darts with complete strangers, my god, why would I play COD4 any more? Where has this been all my life.

Jeeesus christ, So much hate for anything ever released. It's surely a simple case of if you don't like it don't use it? The home extras are supposed to be implemented into PSN anyways. So avoid it completely.

I do have to say personally, It looks okay. But even if it's not, It's only going to add improvements to the basic PSN interface and we end up with pluses in that sense.

Also, People like forums, Chat communities, Chatting via headsets and generally gaming.

So for so many people to be trying to disregard home, it seems wierd. Considering it combines all of these.

And adds to it, the features of launching group games (PS3 Games) Watching and listening to music that's being shared by friends. And then there's the 3d animated trophies.

Just seems a lot of people are looking at this game under a bad light, with no foundation for it.

Because calling it an 'XBL' beater, or a Killer Ap, or 'AAA pivotal release' is nothing more than blind faith.

On the last Player 1 Pod Cast I listened to one of the guys made the most valid observation. He went on to the beta again the other night (the world wide beta) and found he was the only 1 online, THE only 1; everyone else was playing games.

edit: It's very much like the Mii craze. All I heard from friends and from podcasts was how much fun creating a Mii was. Then 2 hours later people wanted to play games.

If they could get it intergrated so you could press a button and zoom out of whatever game you were in to the virtual world, talk to friends, then pop straight back in with minimal loading I'd be the first to say I was impressed. The fact that it loads and exists seperate to playing games and requires big loads to get from one to another I just can't see people using it.

Home looks like ts going to be a MMO version of the Sims, lol

I like the look of it and I like the idea, as long as its there to complement a simple interface like a XMB I think it will be good.

However, if this becomes the ONLY interface, and you need to go though a long painful process of "walking" to a game lobby every time you want to meet friends in a game then this would become very annoying indeed.

I love the simplicity of LIVE but I also like the possibilities of HOME.

Oh quit your crying. It's a discussion with 2 sides.

I have no PS3 so therefore wont use it. But I'm allowed to voice what I think of it.

The concept is good but I don't think that kind of community grows in someone's living room. 25 year olds are not going to come home from work and hop on Home. Kids and chicks probably will. But I'm sure I'm not the only one that that thinks Home is aiming anything at me.

I have only seen videos of people in home talking/IM each other and walking around plus some mini games. Now this kind of goes back on what I have previously said but I can chat with someone on XBL, accept a game invite and go straight into a game.

The only thing so far (current build) which Home is offering is a more visual experience.

LOL at all the doom slayers, you would think they had a xbox360 or something

Fanboyism doesn't come into this. I have a PC yet don't play Second Life because it doesn't appeal to me and its all about £££.

Come on people just because someone doesn't like something doesn't make them a fanboy. I'm not Mr Men. If the PS3 came out before the 360 I probably would have got it but it offers nothing I need over the 360 so I don't have one :)

If anyone wants to give me one I would happily accept it :D

I highly doubt the reason Home was produced was to cover up for XMB not being in game! (if thats what you meant)

I know the two arent directly comparable, i meant in terms of what the majority of people would perfer to use in order to communicate/interactive with one another, Live or Home?
