The PlayStation 'HOME' Information Thread!

This arguing is becoming extremely tedious...

New Guy speaks sense (well some sense, for one so new :) )

tbh though, everyone knew this thread would turn out the way it did, due to the split in 360/ps3 owners opinions in this forum.
I could have bet you a fiver that pro 360 fans would diss this and pro ps3 fans would big this up.

The fact is you haven't manage to counter my post.

there's nothing to counter, i've never tried HOME hence i cannot give such a great accurate reason why i would dislike it like you have

heck you don't even own a PS3

I have no PS3 so therefore wont use it. But I'm allowed to voice what I think of it.

so your posts mean not a lot really ;)

OK so from now on people cant be positive or negative about something which isn't out yet?

I don't understand how now liking software because it doesn't appeal to me is bad :s

The reasons I have given to dislike it is because it doesn't APPEAL to me. I don't see how this is such a problem for you.

While everyone is allowed to voice an opinion of course, I believe that obviously the only people this will have an impact on will be ps3 owners.

It is an additional feature that is free of charge, and if you have a ps3 and don't wish to use it then you don't have to, in-game xmb will cater for those who just wish to connect with friends and play online.

But for those who wish to use this feature then I believe that it holds a lot of potenial, obviously beta usage is small .... then again with only select people using it, we won't see how well it does until it is available to all and you will be able to meet up with anyone on your friends list.

I don't see where the hate for this product comes from, I can see were one might be cynical as to how successful it will be, but assumption is the mother of all **** ups and to speculate when it has not even been released yet with all features available is being premature in the least.

As for comparisons with live, again this is stupid .... they are not the same at all. One system is to solely aid online play while the other is pointed towards being more than this. A fairer comparison would be between live and in-game xmb as these are similar.

So for 360 only owners, voice your opinion .... thats your privilege, but it is a mute opinion, for if you don't have a ps3 or don't intend getting one then you have no input or influence on the matter.

And I must add, that seeing as this is a thread created for ps3 / future ps3 owners who are interested or excitied about home, then negative comments or trolling by ps3 owners who aren't interested in the feature or by 360 only users, well go create a thread about how you don't like home and leave these looking forward to its release in peace.

Well duh

That's excellent. Free stuff is cool. Even if they charged for it that's still fine. It looks good enough to charge for.

But for those who wish to use this feature then I believe that it holds a lot of potenial, obviously beta usage is small .... then again with only select people using it, we won't see how well it does until it is available to all and you will be able to meet up with anyone on your friends list.

I'm going to assume as I know I am voicing my opinion the most in this thread that it was directed at me. I'm not hating the software. I'm not saying it's going to fail. I know that's not going to be the case. I am just saying that it is not something I would use. I don't enjoy that way of interactivity.

Correct. Me saying that I wouldn't use this piece of software doesn't really have much influence. It would be nice however if it did offer something to me that I would use. After all that's another point which could be added on the list of why I should get a PS3.

I am interested in the feature as it could grow into something that takes my fancy. With it only in beta and missing some features that could happen.

I apologise if I am being full of myself thinking that the comments were aimed at me. I have no problem with the PS3. I don't go round these forums hating it. If I had the spare cash I would pick one up as there are exclusive titles I wouldn't mind playing. But there are always going to be people that like/dislike something. It's what makes a decent argument.

Tobes it was directed at anyone who falls into the catagories stated in my post.

Of course you have the right to voice an opinion, my point is that this thread is not the place for it.

Tobes you changed your sig - much better - doesn't look as if your a raving 360 fanboy now, lol

Me personally am looking forward to HOME, i know my boys are even more so due to the likeness of online interaction as they use messenger, bebo and facebook + they love all the sims stuff.

Home

Yes it has gimmick purposes but i for one think comptition in the games market is a good thing. When you sit down to think about it this improves on the 360 in many ways.

I like the idea of having a virtual lobby, although i seriously hope their is a ignore users option as some people will take delight in running havock around the home arena.

Being able to amuse yourself while friends are looking to start a game lobby has advatages over sitting wating in a dull lobby screen. Its also a way to possibly meet new friends or foes. Sony will use this as a major marketing tool with all the advertising thats possible and then make a fortune selling users clothes, furniture etc to style their look or indeed individual private homes. PGR3 had cool garages/mansions this takes it further then allows you to share your own pad with your mates.

Thats kinda neat idea and takes creating an online identity beyond a gamertag and gamerscore really, which was also slagged at the beginning but look how popular thats become.

i think home is a neat idea. Second life for the ps3. As stated i think it will be cool to meet up with mates and what ever before a game. The idea of having a house area which will show off your trophys and things i think is pretty cool. Basically sonys answer to gamer points but hey ho whats wrong with them copying the idea. Its a gooden and as said above if you dont want to use it you dont have to!

hey look the wii has motion sensitive controllers!
hey look the wii lets you make avatars

I'm not saying that sony are simply copying nintendo but these are a few of things PS/360 users pick up on as "gimmicky features"

So far the only things swaying me towards buying a PS3 are Home and blu-ray capability. This says a lot about the games titles currently available on PS3. I held off HD films until one format won and it's looking like the PS3 is now a safe investment.

Just my 2 pence worth

I've never seen anyone say the Wii avatars are gimmicky and I've seen most PS3 users point it out when a motion sensor use is gimmicky.
...And just because you'd only buy a PS3 for the home theatre capabilities doesn't say a lot about the game titles currently available... Unless your opinion is somehow regarded as fact.

Sony's forthcoming PlayStation Home platform has undergone key changes in the last few months as a result of feedback from users currently engaged in its beta test.

The virtual world environment, first shown to the public in 2006, has had significant changes made to Home Square and the entrance points to other areas, as well as other places such as the Theatre.

New screens of a recent build of Home, shown to the audience by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's John Venables and Ron Festejo in a session at Imagina 08, demonstrated the new look of what will be every user's first view of the world.

What had been an enclosed room with a large window showing a lush view has now been transformed into a serene outside space, with plenty of room for people to interact, and tables with fully functional chess and draughts games included.

Additionally the entrance points to key content areas - the Theatre and the Bowling Alley - have been redesigned so that they're much more recognisable.

The Theatre itself, while retaining the same functionality, has had all of the screening areas moved down to the ground floor, after feedback from users that the 12 second walk to go upstairs took too long.

Venables and Festejo also revealed that it was now possible to take your avatar out onto a balcony from your own apartment, and that there would be "around eight or nine" different apartments available at launch, although no new details on potential pricing options for the premium apartments were available.

One of the premium rooms displayed was called Norwegian Lodge, a large wood cabin, much bigger than the basic apartment, and while all of the existing apartment designs were based on real-world locations, Festejo commented that he could see more fantastic options, such as a room in the clouds, becoming available should there be user demand for it.

PlayStation Home is currently on track for a Spring 2008 launch, and will be free to download for all PlayStation 3 users.

The Imagina 08 conference is taking place in the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, until February 1.

I'm in no way saying my opinion should be regarded as fact. Merely the fact home appeals more than any games suggests the line up is pretty poor.

I don't think it appeals more than. It's just appealing.

I mean how good would the 360 be without Live? I'm not comparing live to Home with that statement, I'm just saying. It's possible for something to be brought to a system, and it be receieved just aswell, Even if it's not a game
