Beckham left out of England squad - squad announced

Great news for Villa - 5 players in the squad (counting Carson for whom the deal isn't finalised) - bit surprised by the inclusion of Davies - he looks pretty useful though, and Gabby should have been in for the Croatia game!


As for Beckham, at last a manager who picks a team on what he values is correct, not what the papers and others think.

Crouch and Rooney wouldn't really work together. They both need an Owen type next to them. I'd play one of them with Agbonlahor, ala Gilly's team (Jenas in the middle! Even atpbx might find himself agreeing to that). Also, I'd have Young over Downing.

I thought even most Man Utd fans agreed that Carrick and Hargreaves don't play well together?
 
What, in the whole 3 or so games they've played together? There is no reason why they can't so long as England's forwards aren't too static.

Played well together against Spurs I thought. A lot of people on here had a whinge but I watched the full game later in the day (not live) and thought the pair of them were excellent and Carrick was unlucky to be substituted.

I fancy Capello to go 4-5-1 though. In which case I'd have Lampard (when fit) in there with both of them.

EDIT: Ripper: I wouldn't know myself, I was just going on what I'd read of Man Utd's fans opinions on here, and that they're both fairly defensive (Hargreaves more than Carrick admittedly) midfielders.

Squad is going to be cut down to 23 today. Gerrard set to be named captain according to the papers, on a temporary basis at least.
 
I couldnt justify a place for Owen even in the squad let alone starting eleven.

Out of that Squad you would have to pick:

Carson (still)

Brown Ferdinand King Cole.
Hargreaves.
Jenas Gerrard.
Swp Rooney Agbonlahor



And actually try and play some football, Putting Crouch or Heskey on is a cheap excuse to play long balls, that system would FORCE players (especially Gerrard) to get it on the deck and play football.
 
If you're judging on performances, having anyone over Ashley Young on the left is madness.
I'd like to see Agbonlahor play too, but I think Rooney and Kitson would work quite well.

Beckham did not play most of the matches under Capello so why should Capello be bitter about him going to other club? :confused:

It's about time we need to get rid of lifeless 'reputable' squad!

In a diamond formation? Surely if you play those 4 then you play a basic 4 across the pitch with Young on the left and Bentley on the right.

They say Capello favours the 4-2-3-1 formation and with that in mind i'd go for:

Richards Ferdinand Woodgate Cole
----------Gerrard Hargreaves
Bentley--------Rooney--------Young
---------------Owen

Might be harsh on Agbonlahor but no matter his current form Owen is still our biggest goal threat and has to start imo.
