I've just returned from the pub, where as dezzy driver I wasn't drinking  I was dropping off four mates, who obviously all fit in my car (a 3dr Fiat Punto). However I met another mate at the pub and he needed a lift which I had to refuse.

Anyway to the point, I was wondering if there was any law which says I cannot carry more passengers than I have seats for? I know that its ok to carry more people than you have seat belts for but I assume this only applies where there is a seat but no belt and not when you have four (skinny) people on the rear bench??

Anyone who can shed some light would be welcomed??

i was going to type mpv, but my fingers went for van instead :o
at the end of the day, its a van

My sisters friend was carrying 6 passengers in her car, 4 in the back (designed for 3) one in the front and one in the boot.

She got points for the one in the boot and a fine for the 4 in the back. On cop shows they seem to get in trouble for it quite a bit as well.

Unless you're asian. They seem to be allowed to fit their entire extended family of 4 generations in an old nissan sunny without issue or reprimand.
