just a quickie put 360 on today the console crashed so turned off then on nothing happened green light and 3 red outer lights came on, i left the machine alone for 15 mins tried again and it is back to normal does this mean i am on borrowed time ?

Yeah sounds like its pretty knackered. I have had 2 consoles do this on me, waiting for my 3rd one to be returned from MS, heres hoping.

How often (and likely) do these RRODs occur? Bought my first 360 last weekend so am intrigued.. is it any less likely with a newer console?

Out of curiousity which 360 edition do you have? (Premium, Core, Elite, Falcon etc).

Randomly, unfortunately. Anyone who tells you otherwise is speculating. If it was anything apart from random the problem would be fixed/isolated/remedied by now (you would think). There is speculation that the new editions suffer from it less (but it can't be "fixed" else they wouldn't spend a lot of money on giving everyone with new consoles 3 yr warranties).

The new consoles are so far quite reliable anyone saying otherwise is just speculating, more reliable than PS3 according to one source on here anyway, so would not worry about it at all. :)

I bought an elite last weekend on a whim so i could have a play with hdmi to see if it was any difference over VGA, it was DOA after one hour.

The picture was worse with hdmi than it was with vga, so i just took it back for a refund, but there obviously is still some issues even with the new ones, although perhaps i was just unlucky (or lucky since it turned out there was no real point in having it).

i got the premium. bought it last july, what i will do is continue to use it until it happens again and then buy an elite send this one to be repaired then send it to the almighty bay site or even trade it through a high str chain

Could you not send it for repair, and then trade it for an elite in a store? Obviously, You'll need to add cash to the price of the premium. But it'd get you a nice bit of cash knocked off the price, Considering the trade in value vs cash amount.

How can something be dead on arrival after an hour of it arriving?

Hmm, I don't know about that. I bought an Elite before Xmas (Falcon), whilst my old Premium was at MS for repair, and that died within 2 weeks. Although it was lower left quad that was red and the error was E74. AFAIK E74 is nothing to do with overheating?

Still it's not give me much faith in the new revised consoles. I mean 3rd console within 18 months isn't good.

Yep, im on my 3rd in 13 months, but my new ones a falcon so hoping its going to be better.

My friend is on his 4th 360 console, It's HDMI. And he's had no problems with it so far.

They died pretty much over 13/14 months. But he's had this AGES now. So fingers crossed it stays for the long haul

I was just thinking, is it related in anyway to the consloe being moved around!

I have not moved mine once, since I originally set it up, but other mates took it round to mates etc etc, and they have suffered from RROD.

Just a thought was all

No, its mainly due to the heat a modern chip gives off causing poor connections of solder to eventually fail. Nothing to do with moving it around, unless you were extremely heavy handed.

what im concerned about is that i dont think theres a game yet that fully stresses the 360. i think once there is there may be a few more rrod
