Keeping dogs

Then why get a dog if you keep it outside? Why not a cat or a statue?

Cats are different animals and all those I know who have them (incl. my house) has cat flaps for them to do as they please.

Are you also implying that a statue is equivalent to a dog kept outside? Care to elaborate?

Keeping one outside doesn't mean you don't get to feed, play with them, take them for walks, cuddle them and do anything else you usually do with a dog.

Yeah its called a house.

And automatic feeding machines are called owners, should try it.

God damn, do I have to :(

No wonder he looks so unhappy :(

I've failed you, God. Failed you.

No he doesn't look that unhappy, just in pain because you have a crappy plastic bed.

Did you ask the breeder about his elbow and hip scores? Eye scores?

Stand him up and take a photo, looks a show lab, which are in my opinion more of a bull mastiff then a Labrador.

He's got conjunctivitus hence the red eyes (no we didn't inject him with this)

What do you mean? That he isn't a real lab?

Did you check his scores? Dont avoid the question.

No, i don't mean he isn't a real lab, just show labs look more half bred with a bull mastiff then a Labrador.

I haven't had them checked, no. I wasn't avoiding the question.

Only his father was KC registered. We didn't get him from a breeder.

So where did you get him from? If he was KC reg'd, then you should be able to check on his scores.

what are these scores your talking about?

"Most" reputable breeders get there mother and father's hips, elbows and eyes scored (at a vet). Labradors are prone to have bad hips, elbows and eyes. The breeders score them so they are not passing on the bad "gene" onto the puppies, that way they are breeding out the inherited conditions.

If they have a really bad score, say over 20, they have an extremely high chance of getting extremely bad artharitus (sp?) in the hips and elbows and in the eyes they can go blind.

A family who's dog had a litter for the first time, more accidental than anything. We were happy to get Sully for being a dog and not the paperwork. We are not going to breed.

If Sully is to get poor hips then what can we or any other buyer do about it? He's fully looked after by us and a local vet. So please stop patronising me with your talk.

A mod can close this thread now. Cheers.

I'm not patronising you, Labrador's are my passion and it really upsets me when things like this happen.

Andy, providing your dog is exercised regular, loved, fed, watered, is in a secure garden and has somewhere warm and dry to go if the weather gets bad then you have NOTHING to be ashamed about.

Teki187's quote about the legalities are, quite bluntly, testicles. My wife works for an animal rescue place and I told her what you were doing and she can't see a problem. This is also coming from a woman who has worked at the RSPCA and does home checks many times a week for suitable owners.

You'll be fine.
