Vista SP1 released tomorrow?

any idea how the average user will get an integrated copy?
Buy a new copy when the discs in store have been replaced with the new versions?

It's no big deal, it's just a bunch of patches, it's not an XP level of Service Pack, there'll be nothing detrimental from just installing it on your current system.

Slipstreaming is a process where you apply service packs onto the files, creating a install disc with SP already applied upon a fresh install.

I've done the same to my original Windows disc, now have a SP2 install disc. Dead easy to do.

tbh I dont bother. Its quicker and less hastle to just install then install the SP straight away from a file on a disc or on the hard drive.

Yeap the creating disc/dvd process seems too long winded in my opinion. The disc/dvd would become outdated quite soon for me anyway as I prefer to keep my applications uptodate..

Not under Vista. It's not supported properly anymore and although people have found methods to do it they're generally hack-ish. Microsoft recommend using Windows Update to install SP1 once it's released.

When it is released to the public then you will be allowed to stripstream it. What I mean by this is that Microsoft fully support it and will release media (i.e. vista with sp1) for this. It's also part of there training and exams.

Microsoft will release updated media, but they aren't providing any way for you to slipstream SP1 into your existing discs. Unlike XP where they provided full documentation to do it.

Well bang goes that idea for now then, I was going to slipstream it but I never knew MS had not included the feature in Vista. I'll do a clean install then apply SP1 on the top then create a DVD image with True Image. I'm sure MS or someone else will release a tool for slipstreaming soon.

There's no documentation for it at present as SP1 is not out. In all the Vista books, including the official MS ones, there is going to be options to SlipStream it - as I said it's part of the exams.

This must be wrong then:
* Express. Requires an Internet connection but minimizes the size of the download by sending only the changes needed for a specific computer (approximately 50 MB for x86-based operating systems).
* Stand-alone. Recommended for computers with limited Internet connectivity and for applying the service pack to multiple computers. The download size is larger than the express package, but customers can apply a single package to any Windows Vista version and language combination (within a platform). Distribution tools like System Center Configuration Manager 2007 use stand-alone packages to deploy Windows Vista SP1.
* Slipstream. The slipstream version of Windows Vista SP1 is media that already contains the service pack, which companies can use to deploy the operating system to new computers or to upgrade existing computers. Availability will be limited. Microsoft will update Windows Vista retail media with Windows Vista SP1 slipstream media in the future. Slipstream media will also be available to Volume Licensing customers.

Did you follow all the install/uninstall instructions?

Did you follow all the install/uninstall instructions?

Before You Install
• You must uninstall any previous versions of Windows Vista SP1 Beta before installing Windows Vista SP1 RC.
To uninstall previous versions of Windows Vista SP1
1. Open the Programs and Features control panel and select View installed updates. In the Microsoft Windows section, right-click Service Pack for Windows (KB936330) and select Uninstall.
2. Your system will now uninstall the previous version of Windows Vista SP1 Beta and may reboot multiple times.
3. Please wait one hour after uninstalling a previous version of Windows Vista SP1 before installing Windows Vista SP1 RC. The installer service needs to clean up and complete the uninstall prior to installing the RC. Failing to do this can result in installation errors when installing the RC version.

Dont think anyone can go wrong there...
