my poor PSU is really singing ....

more noise from my PSU internals than any of my fans - eek !

X1900XT = noisey sometimes
GTS = noisey more
3870x2 = even noisier too !

Itsa Tagan 700W dual-engine so it should be ok. perhaps I should RMA it and in the mean-time replace it. It seems perfectly stable just flippin noisey.

Great score for 1680x1050, about the same fps i get @ 1280x1024 :p

Gerard - is it normal ? I just worry it will keel over and take out my kit one day.

what sort of noise does yours make ?

mine is a sort of noise like a fan would make with its bearings going - but its not fan noise - almost sounds like something turning on and off very fast - like a gerbil going round a wheel.

with my GTS under ATItool it sounded like a siren went up and down in tone as the FPS changed.

now I talked to someone at work who is a power specialist - and he reckoned it could just be the design of the switched mode power supply - and nothing to worry about ?

Just tried one of the crysis levels with 8xfsaa applied, its questionable really. Your weapon look antialiased but things like the jeeps etc don't when theyre on the move. Its like the games selecting what its applied to. :confused:

Well a day befor the prices shot back up i was about to order the Asus but didnt want to order at the weekend, as i like to order dur in the week, (god knows why).

the designs.. the HIS one looks a bit.. boring bit like my HD2900XT, wilst the Asus sticker makes it look better imo. but for the price it has gone up to its not worth the extra money. But now i think ill just wait till the prices come back down again

i experienced the same lol just have to wait now

Yep they are on the City Link Van.... normally arrives between 11am and 2pm
Machine is all ready... all i have to do is change the PSU and slot them in... They cross everything that these are the Quad divers.

Citylink van, expect them this time next week then :p

Don't think many ATi cards 'bundled' with CoJ actually arrived with it. I've heard a few reports of no games received. Maybe stock levels were low. :(

Pity really as i had to buy it seperately... pretty decent game too! :)

gt

I moaned at OCUK when I bought my HD3850 coz it wasn't supplied. Lo and behold it arrived 2 days later..... ;)

YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR IT OR YOU WON'T GET IT. Shame on OCUK that thats the case, but I aint hte only one who has asked for it post purchase and then received one.

:rolleyes:

The noise you refer to is cap / inductor squeal. High pitched tone that changes when in 3D? Crysis / BF2 menus seem to highlight the problem.

Its pretty normal for high current devices and nothing to worry about. The graphics can also make the noise as can the motherboard.

Worst cards for cap squeal are X1900XT, GTX.

For some reason the GTS 320/ 512 & GT's seemed better.

I was hoping the X2 didn't suffer from cap/inductor squeal.

when citylink deliver to me , that usually means a drive across town and pick it up, still its only 40min round trip
My nearest City Link depot is 14 miles from where I live and they always call during the School Run when my wife is out. Unlike the Royal Mail, they won't leave packages with a neighbour (or at the local post office), so I always avoid using them when I can.

UK delivery services in general have certainly gone down hill since RM was privatised.

City Link will sometimes leave with Neighbour but it's completely random whether they bother to get off their arse and do it or not. My nearest depot is 19 miles one way through country lanes (40 minute journey) :(

I have found interlink to be more reliable in my area.

Back on topic
My 3870 does squeal a tiny little bit, more of a high pitched hum really. Not very loud and soon get used to it.
