Fourth under sea cable has been cut, middle eastern www is down

Completely annoying, i've not been able to get on much else other than the BBC website for almost a week now. (i have to be very patient to browse the forums here)

No hotmail, no uk-based email, msn won't sign in and i'm down to about 3-4 K/s on anything that does work.

Its unfortunate - but I'm sure it was deliberate - probably some group who think the west is showing them too much - or teaching them too many bad habits.
Funny, Scott Adams' theory is the reverse of that. You cut the internet into countries (such as Iran, which has, I believe, been completely cut off at times) before an invasion, so that the people in-country can't report to the rest of the world exactly what the invaders are doing.

To be fair to him, he does remind readers that he said that in his book a few years ago, he's not suggesting that's what's going on now.

But to me (in my conspiracy theory hat), it looks like a test. Can the internet to certain countries be completely disrupted?

Stupid, i thought the whole idea of the internet was if one link went down it would re route it!

well the internet is still up just horribly slow, and sites that are on middle eastern networks/servers, will still be fine just the stuff based over sea's that will have difficulty.

by breaking links etc, they meant a city could be destroyed and communication would still be viable in the country for military purposes.

Al-Queda just wanting more control? :p

Don't want those young 'uns reading some tripe about how evil they are, they want rumours and Chinese whispers about how great they are and the evil Americans. Also hurts the economy of the evil states like UAE, Saudi Arabia and Israel etc.

Just an 'out there' theroy :p

I have to say, that is such an ignorant comment. Why are these boards so anti-middle east?! Just because there are a group of crazed fanatics that take things way too far, doesn't make the whole area cavemen..

I think you meant "they are" not "there are" :p
