not really, the lower multipliers of the 45nm quads at a similar price bracket negate any big advantage they have over 65nm in terms of overclocking.

unless of course you don't have a q6600 that alread sits @ 3.6ghz+ comfortably.

Getting too many mixed opinions about this processor tbh

Without a doubt the new quads are the way to go. 10-15% faster clock for clock (o.k i pulled that one out my ass but i heard it's true) bigger caches and much cooler. With a 8x multi 4.0ghz should be fairly common on 500fsb running fairly cool too.

Most of the q6600's hit around 3.6ghz which quite honestly is crap, especially since it runs on only 1-2 of it's cores in most games.

the multi is the problem, the new ones will still be quicker and run cooler it is just a matter of whether or not it is worth the extra cash when your q6600 is @3.6 already. I personally wouldn't bother.

I'm upgrading for the new SS4 instruction set that will see huge gaiin in Adobe production studio etc..

You have to look at the bigger picture.

Oh and I'm coming from a Q6600@ 3.8ghz

And how many current boards will do 500fsb

Lmao, how can you say that going from 2.4. to 3.6 is carp

I'm not saying it's carp................... i'm saying it's crap:D
But in all seriousness it's a fair overclock, not great, but not crap either. I was referring to the speed which is rubbish compared to e8400 in same price bracket and the new q9450.

If you already have a q6600 though there is little point upgrading i agree, however if you have an older core 2 the new quads are without a doubt the way to go, simple as that.

p.s to answer your mobo question
any p35 mobo from £50 up.

Is that true? My Gigabye P35 only goes to 460. Am I doing something wrong or could my E2180 be holding things back. i.e is the max FSB on a motherboard independent of the CPU or related?

So when will these chips be available to preorder?

and i imagine running these on water wouldnt be any different than running on air stability wise if its stuck at an 8x multi?
