Life on Mars is class - Ashes to Ashes discussion/spoilers too

it doesn't need the "time travel" aspect, it should have been a simple program based on the antics of the coppers

There never was or is any 'time travel' aspect, so it didn't have that. And it can't be a program based on the antics of the coppers as they don't really exist!

I know it wasn't time travel as such but couldn't work out how to word it so that's why I used "", whether the coppers existed or not doesn't really matter

ok been made to post there about Ash's To Ash's

WHY???

its a follow on from life on mars has nothing to do with that program only 3/4 people are from that yes its along the same lines but why cant we have a thread of this??

Ashes to Ashes :p

It's good because they didn't try to make it identical. But not original like Life on Mars was.

I assume it is meant to come across as an over-the-top parody (Ashes to Ashes that is) and isn't the scary clown related to the inlay card stuff on Bowie's Scary Monsters CD?

Yes its from the follow up album which had life on mars on it

bowie dressed up as that clown in 1980 and u got the album worng its space some thing

Life on Mars was from Hunky Dory which was 70s. Scary Monsters is from the 80's and Ashes to Ashes (the song) references Major Tom from Space Oddity....

I watched Ashes To Ashes...

It seemed to be heavy going, because they were basically re-creating the same storyline that we were so familiar with from Life On Mars with Sam. Hopefully it will pick up from hereonin.

It's difficult, because it's basically a vehicle for Gene Hunt, but they've had to go out of their way to pull together a plot for it as a spin off from Life On Mars. Whether it works remains to be seen. I can see where Rotty is coming from, that maybe it could have just been a cop show, but then it would have been hard to sell as a spin off.

They're stuck between a rock and a hard place in some ways.

In other news, was there any reason - besides looking hawt - that Keeley Hawes spent half the episode in them stockings?

IMO it should have been some 80s cop related drama without the Sam Tyler experience and freaky time travel stuff. I don't think it works without him in it, but time will tell I guess.

"Fire up the quattro!"

I thought it was brilliant. Gene Hunt is the most charismatic guy on TV. Ok the concept is repeating itself, but I don't care. For 1 hour on a Thursday night I can sit back, enjoy the ride and laugh a little. It's what I don't mind my license fee being spent on!

I for one love Life on mars and now I love Ashes to Ashes :D

I dont get excited about much these days but waiting for Ashes to Ashes has been a buzz for me and tonights episode hasnt let me down!

Hmmm... I'll wait and see. Mind you, my current tv heroes are Gene Hunt, Henno Garvey and Eddie Stone  And it'll take a lot to change that!
