IT helpdesk.

Cheers fonzee!

I know what its like trying to get that first break so always willing to help where I can. The firm I work for is quite cool, and theres lots of chances for progression so hopefully all goes well for Ace Modder.

30K Bloody hell!! I thought I was on a good one doing 2nd line and a bit of first line for 22k.... (increasing to 25k after a couple of years ;)) in the civil service!!

I'm on less than £14k and I'm the SysAdmin, Webmaster, Postmaster and the "it's got a light so it's technical" guy of a (vaguely) international company.

Sucks to be me :(

Grrr, I was in that position once. All for £12k a year.

Joy.

Glad I got out of there!

30k for first line in some companies sounds about right, not in the real world though, only for MOD etc. Security cleared IT professionals are hard to come by it seems these days.

No, £9k is minimum. Alas, helpdesk jobs are usually poorly paid for the responsibilities they give you...without advanced level qualifications such as a degree or MCSE you won't get much.

I dont have MCSE or a degree, and i certainly dont get anything like these low levels of pay. And no it wasnt a job handed to me by a family member or anything, and i do little more than 2nd line type stuff, 1st line level a lot of the time.

Bit of digging, min wage is £5.52 an hour. Standard working day is 7.5 hours. Over a year that is nearly £11k assuming no bonus or overtime payments, not 9 :) Still bad though!

Interesting...

I was paid £10k at Learndirect. Should I sue them for breaking the wage law as well?

Average helpdesk wage in the South is probably circa 16-18k... average for a big company is around 20-23k from what i've seen.

I am expected to drive anywhere in the country at short notice mind, i do a lot of miles. So i guess that reflects.

Well I can't afford a car, so thats me out of the picture for that one. I've found the jobs involving driving to sites pay on average 2-3x more as far as IT support goes.
