IT helpdesk.

Well I can't afford a car, so thats me out of the picture for that one. I've found the jobs involving driving to sites pay on average 2-3x more as far as IT support goes.

Not sure about 2-3 times, but yeah they definately pay more and will usually provide a company car. Mine will either buy me a new car and give me a fuel card, or let me use my own car with an allowance and a fuel card to go with that. I chose my own as i like my big V8 Mercedes, but in your case you could just let the company buy you a car.

Search around, ive never seen an onsite job which doesnt cater for a car.

Do I really need to produce my payslip with some bread for you to believe me. It actually works out as 29+ but with our shift allowence and what not takes it over 30.

The work is fairly dull, you're right but seeing as I can post on here all day, work on my projects if needed and I have the admit the working atmos is very good then its a very good job overall.

Also the canteen is free!

I'm not really sure why he's so lucky.

Ok he's earning a decent salary, but it's doing ******* dull work. I couldn't do a job like that.

Just because YOU don't enjoy that sort of thing, doesn't mean someone else won't... especially for 30k. I work with a great group of guys, and that adds enjoyment ot any job.

Plus, to get to the good stuff you need to do your time in the trenches, you can't ewxpect some fairytale career where you love every second of it and are 100% stimulated 24/7, life doesn't work like that for most people.

30k+ for first line support? Wheres my pinch of salt.....

Don't hate me just because I got lucky.

I didn't used to be on this much, I applied for a Job at Virgin, got it, handed in my notice just as things were changing here. They were employing contracters at obscene rates to do the same job as me, I said increase my wage, give me crystal reports training and pay for my driving lessons and I'll stay, expecting them fully to say no and they said yes.

Trust me, I couldn't really believe it.

No I quite understand that :).

30k and you have a name like Anewbe4u? You certainly are. Way over paid, and what qualifications have you got?

Whats wrong with an A4 page of responsibilities?

Because I don't know all their proprietary systems\procedures etc, nor do I think it is fair to be expected to run the entire branch on £15k...

Also, I dont have money to buy the software they use to learn it..

I left school with standard GCSE results.

Since then I've worked solidly in the computer industry, my CV has a long lists of skills which companies such as this require.

Oh I'm ITIL trained also, might have something to do with it :)

EDIT - Would you have turnd down the salary and said "sorry boss, I'm not worth that"?

You learn their systems...you wont get something for nothing anywhere. Most companies run standard MS AD/Exchange/Domino networks anyway....

I guess anything I have above that has been a complete waste of time and effort....

How exactly will I learn them if they won't hire me? I haven't got £300 or whatever to buy a copy of Server 2003...

Stop taking it personally, this is OcUK, you will always get responses like this. £30k is hardly mega money anyway i dont know why people are taking you up on it so much.

Pretty much, yeah....unless its IT related.

Why do you need a copy of server 2003, its just a copy of windows with a efw more features which are all easy to use. I assume you know your way around AD/exchange/domino, which is what everyone uses.

Again, jealousy :p The green-eyed monster gets the better of good people some times.

It is..I also have relevant experience. Including as a private tutor. Yet apparently this is worthless...

No I don't - they're not free like Linux so where would I have encountered them except at those kind of jobs...if I did know them I wouldn't be posting here. I don't pretend I know everything, thats why I asked the questions.
