Who's up for a pay rise this year?.

I think you've got the stereotypical old fashion view of local authorities to be honest.

The Rotherham Council have outsourced a large part of their programme areas to private companies inculding a multi million pound contract with BT to provide ICT, technical and customer services. There is also a large contract with 2010 Rotherham for construction work etc.

The work for local authority employees are lower paid than private sectors and the only real benefit for us is the pension, which has now been scrapped for new starters.

Of course he has. Everyone who claims to be an authority on how the civil service should be run, in effect, has very little knowledge of what actually happens within(generally, not aimed at Gilly).

Blimey. Where things really that bad mate?

Yup :(

I was driving a coach up and down the same route that was a 4.5 hr round trip twice a day either 4 or 5 times a week, meaning i would see the exact same stretch of road 8/10 times a week. It was the most boring thing I have ever done. I was on autopilot most of the time and had to get up at 3:30am each morning.

New job is with a large delivery company, get my own area and van + its a 9 to 5, after 6 months I will be about £10 quid better off than I was driving the coach. Im happy to say the least :)

your only £10 better off after 6 months?

At least you're happier though!

Yeah, 1st 6 months is a probationary period. Its well worth it m8, I was 4 years in my job and had decided a long time ago that I was leaving as soon as I found a job with either the same pay or a slight decrease.

When I say £10 better off I mean per week :) Reading back it was a bit confusing.

i get an extra £10 a month for no apparent reason, about £95 a week. im an apprentice though so its not exactly the ebst wage but the job is excellent. I will be shadowing a member of the "server team" tommorow :D.

good pay ahoy :P

Yep field engineer for various remote ATMs. You get used to having that kind of cash around you all the time and get desensitised to it. That and each time you open a lock its fully auditable!!

My girlfriends uncle does the same job as you I think. He has a coin and seperate note counter in his shed lol pure gansta! Not that he's got any money to count! :p

He said similar to you, but can get his hands on old special edition notes through the people he knows at the bank so quite cool as well!

Are these bank ATM's or the type you find in pubs supermarkets etc? I'm considering a career change and just trying to sound out a few ideas. (I'm a Senior FSE for the gaming Industry at the moment and the pay is pretty pants ~24k plus the hours are murder :( )

If I get anything less than 20% I will be unhappy. It sounds ridiculous, but I'm working above and beyond the beyond of what I sould be, and have had virtually nil in return thus far.

Probably a pay cut in real terms. The joys of being a civil servant.

And even though it is due in July, probably won't see it until november, as they won't agree it until then, and then won't pay us interest on the money they owe us, because they spent it all on consultants...
