I've always wondered why you would want a 172/182bhp Renault Clio without ABS.

Chucking that ammount of power in a little car is a bit mad. Selecting the one with no ABS is more than mad though haha!

Do people put ABS on the cup's or something? Doesn't seem logical to me;)

IIRC The 182 Cup had ABS as an option as well as other things, however the 172 Cup had very few options.

It was all done in the interest of saving weight.

wow, must be impressive to see it modulate the brakes as quick as ABS.. as well as EBD control

Who said it would...?

I learned in a car without ABS. Most of the cars I have driven haven't had ABS. I did an emergency stop from 65mph in my shuv on 155 section tyres without locking up and didn't hit the E36 ahead of me that had to do the same. In fact, I don't think I've ever unintentionally locked the brakes.

It may amaze many of you, but some of use grew up with cars before ABS, DSC, EBD, TC, 4WD and Airbags, and we made it through without a scratch, and some of them also had 200bhp and more as well, and leaf springs!

No, you made it through without a scratch, plenty of people flew through the windscreen after a relatively slow and easily avoidable crash in a modern car ;)

My Mini had ABS. You could hit the brakes as hard as you liked and they would NEVER lock............or stop you, but you never skidded!

why is it mental? You don't need ABS. If you think a funky clio with no ABS is mental then my mates Impreza STi 555 must be a real child killer, they ditched the ABS so that they could use the space for the intercooler water spray reservoir instead :D

If you are a real driving enthusiast and you like to be in full control of your car then no, they are not a good idea. If you disagree with me then why not phone up lotus and ask them a couple of questions about it.

Because when I'm doing an emergency stop, the main thing going through my mind is whether i'm in full control of the braking system...Are you in full control when you're sliding down the road with your wheels locked?
